You can attempt to but his record is there for all to see, no amount of spin will change that.

    18-18 the last 36 games.
6-9 against the last 15 opponents with losing records.

Bill reached the finish line. He wasn't being offered an extension in the normal timely Rooney approach. His wife was not in the best of health, his QB just lobotomies himself and then had to have an appendectomy procedure, a little more to it then just mailing it in or being S.B. Hungover in my opinion. Tomlin has done some good things and he as we'll let a team slip after his 1 ring with far less drama.

Every time I try to get into the Tomlin thing he brain farts me into the other direction. I root for the guy but every time he seems to have asserted his self the team takes a step back the following week. I don't know how much control he has honestly, but he seems to be constantly fielding out of control teams recently.

Just like with players, we all nag about hanging on or *****ing about casting off on and on it never ends. You either get the job don't or don't and live with it. Tomlin has 3/4 of the season left to make his case, but if the next 8 weeks aren't solid and we end up irrelevant again, I think it will be time to search elsewhere which starts the curve all over again. Could be good or bad. Who knows

The team is not great right now, we all know that. I don't know why some are so focused on how we fair against losing teams as of late? Not like we're some kind of power house that had a slip up. We are in transition right now and building our roster for the next run while still remaining competitive. Look at teams like the Rams, Bucs , Raiders and the browns. Be happy we have a great organization that keeps us somewhat competitive while rebuilding. Be happy that we have an organization that has a proven plan and knows how to build a winner. We've had three down years in a row in 1999-2000 and came out great. We are just over two seasons removed from a 12-4 record and just over three seasons removed from a Super Bowl appearance. We're only four games into this season and some of you act like we should pack it in for better draft picks( don't laugh, you know that's coming soon ) If we're still struggling next year i might agree with some of the fire Tomlin stuff, but for now have some friggin patience and trust in this organization, they've earned it!

You make a good argument, Glenn, and this is well stated. But that 6-9 record against teams with losing records is symptomatic of a larger and growing problem I think. You and I both know there was no excuse for losing to the Bucs at Heinz Field on Sunday. A team that was losing 56-0 AFTER 3 QUARTERS THE WEEK BEFORE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. There's no excuse for losing to the likes of the Raiders, the Browns, the Titans and others when we're big favorites at home. That kind of performance has become far too common over the last few seasons and it's got to stop if we're to take our place back in the upper echelon of the NFL.

Ben saved Cowher's ass the only reason he ever won a Super Bowl, the story is Cowher didn't even want to draft Ben the Rooney's overruled him. Tomlin did a better job with so called Cowher's players than Cowher ever did with his own players. In 2005 they barely made the playoffs as 6th seed won the Super Bowl, in 2008 12-4 had the toughest schedule in the league won the Super Bowl and beat the Ravens three times that season.

Ben missed time in 05 and that's the only reason we had to back in. If not for that we would have been in a lot easier. 11-5 is a record that is pretty hard to complain about honestly. I mean the way things are now I think we would all be happy with 11-5.

Could it just be as simple as we are just better at remaining competitive while rebuilding than those teams you mentioned. And that's why we need to remain calm while this process runs it's course.
Everyone handles this stuff differently. I certainly get upset at times. I just choose to enjoy and support the Steelers win or lose. I'm personally tired of Tomlins attitude as of late, but I know the Rooney's are smarter than me when it comes to running a football team and they are not going to let their organization struggle much longer if they feel Tomlin is the problem. And even though I might be a bit frustrated with Tomlin myself I still feel like he can get us back on track.

We were 12-4 just a few seasons ago and people picked that apart.

You need to put the pipe down with the "destroying my weak arguments" bull$***! I make plenty of valid points, like in the thread I started yesterday, and the only thing you came up with was some garbage about Vince Lombardi :lolol: Your problem is that you're so stuck on Tomlin that you don't realize he's driving your beloved Steelers into the ground more and more every week. I'm ready to eat crow if I'm wrong, but you need to get prepared as well

The sooner people realize that their opinion has no impact on what the Steelers think , the happier they'll be.

lol...trust me, I don't sit here with the mindset that the Rooney's are scouting our ideas. Nonetheless, I have very strong opinions about the direction that it's heading with the current regime

That was with Cowher's players ;)

OK, you know from another thread that I don't feel that way, but I had to dig. Anyway, I think that the 2011 team was a championship caliber team that was derailed by injuries. I rarely use injuries as an excuse, but that team was beat up pretty badly, especially in the playoff loss where we overwhelmed a MASH unit. I was definitely peeved that MT started Ben in San Fran that season, because he was clearly not ready and may have been set back, but I get that we were gunning for home field and Ben probably pushed really hard. That said, with the loss of veteran leadership, I think Tomlin has lost his way - or more likely has no clue how to handle the new batch of players. Without watching the inner workings of the team from the inside, there's no way to know exactly why the connection isn't there, but it's pretty clear to me that the team isn't buying what he's selling after - once again - watching them come out flat and lose to a bad football team (6-9 in last 15 vs teams with losing records doesn't lie). Something is off with leadership, and Tomlin is the guy with responsibility for the overall state of the team. If something is broken, he has to fix it.

Now, there's no way in hell that I fire him during the season no matter what. We could go 2-14, and I would let it play out. At this point, I see another 8-8 season, maybe 9-7 and a near miss of the playoffs. I just don't see him having a clue how to get the team where it needs to be week in and week out. I hope that I'll spend January eating copious amounts of roasted crow. I'd savor that crow like the best lobster and steak. However, I just don't see it happening. There's too much evidence of coaching deficiencies for me to buy what Tomlin is selling.

Well, I don't think anyone here has delusions of the Rooneys reading the TSF message board for personnel tips :0 We're here to talk, and sometimes talking means venting when things aren't going well.

That team was derailed by injuries and yes, Ben should not have played in SF, I dont think the results would have differed in that game but long term results may have been better.

Thats as much as I agree with in that post :smiley1:

Yeah any time you eek out games it sorta makes people feel like you're not really "for real" ya know? It's like we will only be content when we destroy our opponents and drink their blood at the 50. LOL.

Agreed. If we end up going 11-5 and are in the playoffs, hardly anybody will remember the week 3 Tampa loss. Us fans probably will because of how much it hurt, ESPECIALLY if it sends us from a #2 with a guaranteed home game with a bye down to a #5, but 99% of NFL fans will not

Ya know there are games we have won that still make me mad just thinking of how close they were. The most glaring example was in the 05 playoffs against the Colts. I'm still mad about the blown calls that made that game much closer than it should have been. I would say Joey Porter is too. LOL.
