It was wrong, and it was a bad business decision to not name him the starter. And it is still wrong. It's a bad look for the Steelers.

NFL teams hadn't seen Purdy play against NFL defenses. It is a lot easier to evaluate a guy who has already played in the pros, so it's not the same thing.

Flacco barely played the last three seasons. Last year, after a couple of good starts, he played poorly in his final two appearances. He looked like he had nothing left. Nobody got a better look at him than the Jets and they passed even when he tried reaching out to them.

This is unclear. Do you mean that it was wrong to give up on him before the 2022 season? After it? If a guy hasn't worked out after four or five seasons, teams should still wait? This isn't the 1970s.

When were they supposed to name him the starter? In 2022? Last week? This week? How exactly is it a bad look?

I covered a day of training camp for my college newspaper when Bill Cowher was still the head coach. I asked him a question about the depth chart, and then asked a follow-up. He laughed and reminded me of the date of the opener. (Getting a sarcastic answer from Bill Cowher is still a fond memory for me. lol)

The situations were a bit different, but depth charts aren't worth the paper they are printed on. This assumes anybody bothers to print them anymore. They used to have them in the press materials on game days, but I'm not sure they waste the paper when everyone has the information at their fingertips.

In other words, you are assuming something was meaningful when it was not. Tomlin was always going to turn the job over to whoever he wanted when the time came.

I think everyone needs to calm down. I don't know what the deal is with the NFL this year, but as soon as the second or third QB has a couple good weeks, he has been annoited the next franchise quarterback of the future.

Levis, Dobbs, Devito, McDonnell, Browning, etc.

The appreciation for Mason Rudolph since he has arrived has not been supported enough. He has stayed professional and ready no matter the situation. Even when that lying sack of **** Myles Garrett was throwing helmets at his head, he was still very professional.

With that, the Steelers have a lot holes in areas they need to really figure out this off season. It ain't all talent based either. They need to figure out what kind of culture they want this team to be for the future. The old one is gone. The NFL and the owners as well as CTE have kicked and buried that culture, FOREVER.

I think in the end Mason is not a franchise QB but a damn good back up that can maybe be a Ryan Fitzpatrick type for one team. That's my hope.

If Kenny is indeed a bust, not all the way there still though, than at least take care of Mason as your future #2 so if your future starter does go down, you have a guy who could steady the ship for as long as you need during the season.

Right after Ben retired. Now, Tomlin and Khan and the brass need to go back to their notes and look themselves in the mirror and come clean why they decided not to have QB continuity and not to do the right thing and give Mason his window that everyone else got, and where are they going with this QB thing. But most importantly, when they prepare for games that matter, who do they want, who gives them confidences, who can they gameplan and coach with in game weeks and months.
My opinion is, you have to right the wrongs, you have to give the guy his window. They did it wrong, and there is a lot of subsequent undue bad stuff for the organization and for the player when you make wrong decisions.

How do you know that Tomlin talked to Rooney and that was the reason the depth chart changed?

Actually the depth chart was put out incorrectly by an intern and then corrected

That was made clear when it happened but Brice likes his conspiracy and he’s sticking to it

You guys have seen our quarterback play for the last two seasons haven’t you? It’s hard not to get “carried away” when Rudolph comes in and finally shows us what a competent NFL quarterback looks like and how effective the offense can be when it’s multi-dimensionality is not taken away because the defense doesn’t have to worry about the passing game. No one’s crowning Rudolph the next Blonde Bomber or Big Ben, but, dang, watching Rudolph the last two weeks has been fun, hasn’t it?

Very early on actually...... Mitch stunk it up so badly that the Kenny Pickett Era started earlier than expected..... then they doubled down and kept the status quo[/QUOTE]

That's my issue with the coaching staff, you can't lay it all on the GM. If all the coaches essentially would have said this guy sucks, no way the GM forces it on the coaches, no way. They have to be in agreement to a degree and the starting QB is one position where the GM and HC have to be in agreement. Mitch sucked for a variety of reasons and to have stuck with him after KP went down is nuts!!

This is what I had hoped Kenny Pickett would excel at but, unfortunately, he’s struggled mightily there. He’s not a physical freak by any stretch, doesn’t have a huge arm, is adequately mobile but doesn’t scare anyone with his ability to run, so I was hoping the difference would be his football intellect. I haven’t seen that so far. Then when I heard that he sort of bombed on the Wonderlic, I was first somewhat surprised and then disappointed and concerned. I’m still holding out some hope for Kenny, but I’ve got some real concerns now about his ability to take the next step. Maybe he really is a low ceiling guy after all.

My fear is he is, on top of being seemingly fragile. it might be sad that KP is hoping Mitch fails next week. We are not going to be able to keep Mason real cheap but jesus we paid Mitch who is probably the worst QB we've had in decades. I hope we can have a real QB competition but what that even means anymore is up to someone to explain. Even preseason is useless apparently based on what happened to us this year. So how do you really evaluate a QB without real game experience? I say we ride Mason until he proves he isn't the guy!

I think the Steelers have had an intern evaluating its quarterback group for the last couple of seasons too.

That is my guess. And I don't believe that the official depth chart and 53 man roster that the Steelers submitted to the NFL going into the regular season was a mistake. That is such a BS story.

Rooney was 100% responsible for the Steelers drafting Pickett in the 1st round, he was so afraid that Pickett was going to be the next Dan Marino, and the Rooney's have never lived that mistake down.

Yeah, I thought this was already explained and put to bed.

When he made the statement, I thought maybe there was some confirmation I hadn't heard about.

    This.
Plus there are about half the board just waiting for Him to make one mistake, or loss , and say...see. LoL. Like the other Qbs didn't lose games, or make any mistakes.

I remember reading last year after Pickett was drafted and bumped to QB2 there was a concern of Mason causing a QB controversy which could have hurt Kenny's ego and development.

Sticking with Trub this year is on the same level of stupid as sticking with Canada this year. Both Trub and Canada should have been canned after last season. Somehow Trub got an extension.

‘however Steelers decided to keep both Trub and Canada, they need to examine if they had been drunk and high at the time. Colossal org failure.

Nothing I say just comes from two games My Friend, and you know this. Otherwise I wouldn't have been calling for Him to play for the last two years....before the last two games. You can say this about the people that are now saying it, but not to us that have been saying it.
    No???
