It is a terrible year to be shopping for a HC IMO. So many teams looking for a new HC. Competition will be heavy. The biggest thing we have going for us is probably that any new HC knows he has time to build. The Rooneys give a long leash. It won't be like becoming the Cowboys HC where you are probably gone in 2 years. Great pay and job security, especially if you improve the team.

Just saw and wow. Need time to process but holy hell. For sure I thought he would force another year.

Thanks for everything and was nice feeling like everybody year had some hope unlike a lot of other teams. We were lucky in that aspect but need to take the next step.

Might be going through some dark times for a couple but hopefully we come out stronger than ever.

and just like that purgatory is over and I’m excited for next year to see what happens. We literally for once do know what the fock will be happening and it’s tantalizing.

Did he recently pass Noll for all-time Steeler wins?

How many seasons before the new HC can claim the Super Bowl win as “his team”?

I am not sure where you get your information,
Steelers have always paid players to cap limits. MT was highly compensated.

Current Steelers team doesn’t have anyone to be carried with.

A HS football coach acquaintance of mine speculates that today's generation of football players can't/don't/won't relate to coaches like Tomlin, or even Noll. So it's possible that he just didn't get through to a lot of the current players on the roster and hence the lack of recent playoff success.

    My $0.02

Great news. I didn't think he would give up the paycheck but he's really freakin' rich after bamboozling Rooney for the past decade.

I think he has his pick of HC spots. A lot of teams have an abysmal track record behind them. A coach with 19 winning seasons in a row probably looks like air to a guy trapped 400 feet under the surface of the ocean.

However, my bet is that he goes into the booth. Brady is getting 10 year 375 million dollar broadcast contract. Mike Tomlin is at an average of 17ish million a year. You can bet money that Tomlin can get a contract that pushes him to 25+ a year and he won't have the stress of running a team. Plenty of articles out there saying he has already been approached about going into the booth.

I think it's more about what they do after that super bowl.

    this.

and the transition from Noll to Cowher. That will be absent this go round. “Hall of fame coach”.

Pretty smart of Tomlin. I don't think he wants to break Marvin Lewis' record. He'll probably go the Bill Cowher route and go into broadcasting.

It is hard to not win a playoff game in a decade.

I know the sting is fresh, but Tomlin will be a shoe in for HOF. Wouldn’t surprise me if he gets first ballot along with Rodgers in 5 years if both walks away from the game. Heck if Heyward does the same, there may be three.

We're not getting there for at least 3 or 4 years anyway. So, that.

Exactly. There is sunlight for Steelers fans that this endless night of mediocrity can one day be over. That definitely does require purging the staff and maybe Art II retiring as well.
