Ain't going to happen. He's going into TV. Prepare to hear a lot about teams gluing their eyelids and smiling in the face of adversity.

I just hope they find someone good. They have a good track record of finding good DC’s. Maybe go OC this time. And i hope the new coach is in the mold of Noll, no nonsense, fair, detail and fundamentals oriented.

Here's hoping that the majority of the staff gets let go, with the possible exception of Danny Smith. i cannot see Austin being elevated to HC. I believe his contract is up so he likely will not be retained. Smith, I thought, signed a 3 year deal. Steelers normally don't eat contracts like that, but this is a different situation certainly. Smith interviewed in Tennessee, so that may take care of that issue. Besides, a new HC will want his own coordinators. Just need to pick the right guy, and let him restructure the team. There are certainly some building blocks.

Whoever they hire will be someone young, under 40, and will have no HC experience in the NFL.

    Just my two cents.

I agree that it was time for coach Tomlin to step down. I just think it's time for a new direction. A new voice.

I thank him for his efforts as the head coach and I will always root for him in whatever he decides to do in his life. There is no animosity from me. Everything he did was what he thought was best for the team.

I will miss listening to him speak and his press conferences. Unlike so many, I believe his unique way of speaking and his unique perspective is one of the things I loved about Mike Tomlin.

He has been nothing but class and he has bled Steelers blood for almost two decades. We were better for having him, but this was the necessary direction for the team to go.

We now need to hope that what has been a great organization and has a long history of great hires and full of great football people will find their way and provide us another great coach that will lead the team to bigger and better things.

While I think this is for the best, and I have wanted a new coaching staff to come in for a couple years now, I do feel sad today about the news. Tomlin was dedicated to the Steelers and he never appeared to lose the locker room or the respect of his players who always played hard for him. I wish him the best in whatever comes next.

My daughter never really embraced being a Steelers fan until this season. She would watch games here and there and wear some gear, but she really didn't care.

This year, she started to care. That win over the Ravens finally sucked her in entirely. She was very upset last night.

She just heard about Tomlin. She seems very upset. This should be an interesting phone call.

Ignoring all the stagnation and frustration of the last few years play off results...

Thankyou coach for your service. Will definitely be a weird and different feeling watching the Steelers but... hopefully chance for a new era. An era to reinvent and revitalise this franchise.

You should tell your daughter that Tomlin cannot win in the playoffs and it is long overdue

Probably hire a new coach before the draft, so the new coach can have some input in the draft. Didn't they do that with Cowher?

You have to feel like your building towards something not just treading water or regressing.

And whoever it is, we're stuck with them for a long time, good or bad. So I really hope they don't screw this up

I think I'll enjoy the higher draft picks, to be fair.
