Wow! I pushed the informative button on this one, jeh. I never knew Tomlin has never had a losing season. That’s incredible. The national sports media should be touting this more often. Why are they not talking about this? Wow, just, wow!

Bill the GM is hurting Bill the Coach.
The comparison is mostly about being stale.

I have worked around these guys a long time... though in Washington.

Somewhere I mentioned that I had no idea about who made that decision.
In my mind, and others around me, the motive for that is very mixed.
Some say, don't blow up the system for your QB you are bringing on line.
Others say, he's stunting the growth.
    Still others he's a trainwreck.
Many of the posters here echo the same mixed bag.

My humble observation of this franchise is that it is a very well ran operation at the top.
The market does play into somethings still, I know with the shared revenue etc, that it is supposed to be a level field. It is not.
But that stuff aside, management rarely gets its hands in the day-to-day things.

Omar made some decent decisions when handed the reins.
It is possible he took the cautious path re: Canada.
Or maybe it is the "Steeler way to allow contracts to be played out.
I like the Steeler media, but I think even they admit, getting that kind of info would be near impossible. This is probably a good thing.

For me, knowing or even having a hint that Eric Bieniemy would have me hot on his trail.
But here's the thing with Eric: I think Washington is going to make him Head Coach. It certainly has that feel.
I'm not sure that same plan would work here?
Tomlin is a fantastic guy, he is widely respected in this game. It's hard for me to fathom him not open to upgrading that spot.
When you walk out into a Commanders practice session, Eric is a man among boys. I seen those training camps ad nauseum.
I haven't seen anything close to Eric's work since the 90's.

So, I've rambled on as this is a hot topic button for me.
And what's worse, I have no idea about the decision for status quo.
I do feel like Omar and his staff addressed some good on the field this past season, and I think they will move to address what they think needs some upgrades to get a better product on the field.
I think they need to mine the college ranks some more and look at some of the current staffs that are deserving a chance.
Canada and Austin are responsible for the Offensive and Defensive units, the offense ranks near the bottom and the defense has under performed.

Good for Mike. Mike would never have been in top anything if he didn't have a certain QB. To be fair, how would Andy Reid have been minus McNabb and Mahomes? How about Bellycheck minus Brady?

I know many want his butt gone but I'm fully convinced he stays as long as he wants. Art ain't firing him.

I would think that any coach who has made the playoffs in the past x years, and is still coaching, is a better coach than MT. This is based on my definition of a successful season which is making post season. Use whatever number of years fits your criteria but for me, 3 is what I prefer as being current. Some or many may not agree, but I don't mind or care. JMO>

Frankly who cares what writers think, at the end of the day the owner of team has to decide how they determine success, what is their goal and what effort is sufficient towards that goal to be deemed a success. If he feels, a winning season is sufficient because that continues to fill seats then as fans we are stuck with that until we vote with our feet. If the owner says, my measurement for success is a making it into the playoffs and over a timeframe he outlines, advancing further in the playoffs with a ACF championship and Super Bowl appearance being expected based on that talent provided to the team then that is your barometer, fair or unfair. Now as a fan, I don't consider him a top anything coach because the lack of playoff success over the years with many of those years having a HOF QB and other players leads me to conclude he is overrated and has underachieved. Just my opinion and I'm convinced until they make a complete management change i.e. the coaching staff we will not make a deep run into the playoffs. I hope I am totally wrong but the body of work is not giving me confidence. Does anybody else believe this staff will get us there? Then again it only counts what the owner thinks and believes is acceptable performance.
