he's also making it tough for this defense to work on more of it's man defense without the starting FS being up to speed in it. anyone else concerned about this retarding the meshing of the DB's without him? does he go right back to being the starter if he remains out for another week or two?

Steelers have already made note that the injuries have forced them to back off on or acting man coverage.

That being the case, he will start when he returns.

This crossed my mind also. Hopefully he can get on the field soon, or it would not surprise me to see some defensive miscommunications early in the year while they all get on the same page. Same goes for Shazier.

Someone has to beat him out first.

Even with him healthy, i see FS as a big priority. So far, it looks like Watt may calm my worries about not selecting Budda Baker.

Mike is no help in man coverage , so it's a sad thing that we have to back off of man coverage because our weak man coverage FS is not there ....

Maybe someday Mike Tomlin will have something other than soft zone to use against the Pats. Lol, jk. He won't.

Weak link. Is not good in pass defense. Safety position
is poor for our Steelers lets deal, watch the waiver wire.

No one side is. Davis is going to be a very good safety and I would assume they address FS next year via FA. Anyone coming up in the waiver wire isn't going to be better than Mitchell and if they are they won't fall all the way to us.

And the Bengals just lost their starting FS so there's that also now. It would have to be a trade or wait until next year

Is Mitchell not a great center fielder? As in single high. I'm not saying he doesn't need the reps but I think the skill set leans that direction.

If you mean Mike maned up in the slot?! Oh my science no. Not even in the right time zone. Not once not never

Had Budda been selected for us instead of Watt due to circumstance, I would not have been too disappointed. Having two, rangy smashmouth safeties is never a bad thing.

Budda's instincts and center fielding abilities will still be great given the fact that Bob Sand-, I mean Tyrann Mathieu will be the one teaching him.

I think bad at both .He is a hit first guy and the new NFL will not allow you to lay the wood and break up plays ...He is more of a throwback in that way ..The way the game is being called now you really need a WR at FS a guy who knows routes, breaks on those routes, and has hops to get up and combat catches ..

The days of the big hit style are gone ...We need a guy with that is my ball type mentality and you best not try and float one in on me and if your going to drive it in I am still going to get a hand in and start the tip drill....

No QB wants to face that at the Safety spot ..If they are not born you create one ...Ya feel me?

But they might be better than Golden/Dangerfield. Lets face it, this position is weak for us and will be taken advantage by good qb's. Brady, Rodger's
    Wilson, etc.

that old boy from seattle was hitting people the other night without a flag. that kind of amazed me.

good tackling corners would be a better option than wr i belive. golden was. we did have ike and we have allen that are wr converts though but they are corners. i'd still like to see allen tried at safety.

That's true but I like Dangerfield. He has progressed into a serviceable NFL player as a back up and special teamer. He has come a long way from a guy who used to just be able to blow people up.

Budda looked great in game 1. Will take a look how he did last night.

Naturally, he had to end up in Steelers West. They take our players and now they even take guys I like in the draft.:lolol:

Mitchell in 2015 had 80 tackles 2 forced fumbles 3 INTs 9 PDFs , he digressed a bit in 2016 he had 77 tackles 9 PDFs 1 INT no forced fumbles, if can he get his 2015 form back this year he could contribute a lot.....

I don't think there's a question Mitchell will be inserted into the starting lineup when healthy. I'm a big critic of him, but he's the best we have right now.

Let the Derwin James (FSU) watch begin...

Speaking of the secondary, I hope Sutton plays today. If I can watch the game, I'll definitely be keying in on the secondary. Sensabough, Hilton, Sutton -- I want to see how these guys do.

You have to have the right players to play man coverage.

Already have been since he entered Flordia State. Loved his highlights from MaxPreps when he came out of High School.

Knew he wohld be special then and there is no reason to believe he will not be when he enters the league barring injury-prone syndrome.
