I hear ya... I was hoping he was available to us when the bengals got him. More so for the fact that I think he's got moxie and could be a dependable field general. Just not too impressed with the QB class coming in and don't believe they need to get overly aggressive with the Landty signing.

The optimal word was currently. I was trying to see where traditional the 2nd round picks fell between value assigned to the pick and actual impact players. It makes it easier to look at known value vs projected value.

I hope AJ doesn't turn out to be a stud QB in this league. If he does, giving up a 2nd rounder would be viewed as a steal. Where's that damn crystal ball when you need it?

He's 2-1, 6 TD's and 2 Int. 97.1 rating. No one has said he is the 2nd coming, just that he has showed well in his limited opportunity.

No sure things in life, waiting and taking someone in the draft is as big a gamble, bigger in fact, except that will cost you a 1st rd pick.

You could say the same about Brady.

Realistically, it's very unlikely any organization goes directly from one franchise QB to the next. (Has there been one more recently than Montana-to-Young?) I think we're just trying to line up the post-Ben QB, and stay above the threshold set by Brister/Maddox/et cetera.

Because he isn't playing. I think he could have by now. Could have been a 5 year project.

Yep, and I think you jumped the gun on Romo to Dak. If you think Dak is a franchise QB because of his first season, think back to how RG3's career started. Or how Nick Foles has played since a silly 27 TD, 2 int, 119 QB rating stat line in 2013. Or how Kaepernick started out in SF.

Yeah, it's also highly unlikely a team could get it wrong 30 times in a row, but there are the Browns. :smiley1:

I agree that we should get a QB during this offseason so LJ has some competition in the preseason. So, why did the Steelers keep LJ ever since he got drafted?

i think they move on from romo with dak no matter what at this point. i'm not saying he will be but they seem to have comm to that at this point.

i think they like LJ and he could come back. i don't have a problem with him being here even if we get another qb we still need a backup. let them all compete with met and let the chips fall where they may keeping the best two behind ben for now.

Because Ben was 4 years younger, and LJ wasnt the 2 QB until his 3rd year, and it's quite possible that Tomlin and Haley likes what they see in LJ, it's also possible that they project LJ to be the starter for this team after Ben, no fan knows what this organization and the coaching staff plans for LJ, how we evaluate a player and how this organization evaluates a player is night and day different.....

In order to really make this accurate, every current second round starter in the league that was available to Pittsburgh at the time would also have to be considered. Unless you're trying to isolate Pittsburgh's scouting/drafting proficiency.

if Ben is really considering retiring, which i dont think he is, he was just frustrated, than the Steelers FO needs to really consider taking a qb in the early rounds. unless they have their eye on potential FA in the next year or so.

for all the newbie Steeler fans. im talking maybe 20 years or less. be prepared. finding a replacement for Ben might not be easy. it took them 25 years to find Bradshaws replacement.
