My response (not necessarily at Rashard): If you're going to call yourself an NFL player, you'd better play at a high level. Professionals don't make the egregious errors even Pop Warner players know better than to make.

Or, you know, get used to hearing the people who pay good money be unhappy.

He's going to lecture us about what a fan is? Really? I've been a Steeler fan much longer than he's even been ALIVE. And I'll be a fan LONG after he's gone. Now, I saw guys getting personal with James Harrison on Facebook, and I can only imagine that Twitter and Facebook are cesspools after a loss. But I'm also sure Rashard MUST know about a phenomena called "trolling." If someone is being abusive, that's uncalled for. But expressing disappointment or criticism after a poor performance? Is he a sports fan? That's all we DO! :roflmao:

Mendy, I love you but you're not going to get the press with this that KC's lineman got. HE had a real salient point. You just seem butthurt.

Athletes shouldn't read their own press. That probably goes double for social media. Just avoid it altogether.

I really don't think Mendy should avoid ALL social media. I STRONGLY feel he should come to this board quite often.

Most message boards have a structure and code of conduct absent from social media like Facebook and Twitter.

He's welcome here any time. :) But avoiding the other stuff (especially after a loss) is still good advice. ;)

Oh yeah I agree. I'm of the opinion it's good to avoid those things any way. I've never understood why people put the details of their life on the internet anyway. I mean I'm a reasonable enough guy to know that my life is just really not very interesting. For the life of me I can not understand why people get on a website to read things like "i'm sitting on the couch with my wife" or "i'm going to the grocery store today". And we probably ALL know SOMEONE who has took part in some serious drama that was started over some stupid facebook post thingy. The fact is that there is just a LOT of narcissicism in our society today and most of it is fueled by social media. If people wanna use it that's their prerogative but you shouldn't complain about the things that are gonna naturally come with the territory.

Mendy is right. Some of you act like real jerks around here even after a win. I'd love to start naming names, but I'm sure TTF would not approve.

Sorry I'm with Mendy on this as a fan I think your supposed to be supportive.
As for the well your on the big bucks and we pay your wages, we can call you what we want attitude.
Great don't turn up, if nobody fills the stands the team will just move somewhere else.
Don't for a minute think that your lost dollar is going to end it all.
It doesn't matter how much you are paid in sport at the end of the day it is as much physical as mental and what do you think your helpful words of wisdom do to them mentally.
I read the comments that Jeff Read said about fans that had everyone in an uproar and I couldn't see what was wrong with them.
Fancy going to work and having a dozen people heckling you when your trying to do your job, tell me that wouldn't put you off and of all things a kicker to, which is more mental than anything.
You can't win every week and there will always be tough times I think the bigger person just puts up and shuts up.

I'm not versed on twitter but isn't there a button where you can unfollow individuals? Why not take the high road and do that.
If He doesnt like it here and wants to play elsewhere it's fine with me. I felt he was our best option at running back this year but I never liked his instincts hitting the hole, too much dancing out of the backfield. Redman (last year) took him to school on that even though mendy is a better talent.I haven't had anything to criticize about mendy this year other than his recent comments. I'm ok with adding RB to our list of needs for next year because again I feel we can do better then mendy at the position.

I think some people take what is said on these boards WAY too seriously. It's like beer muscles only this is media muscles. IMO I think the majority of fans are just "venting" nothing more! :herewego:

That's not how it works. I mean, yes...you can unfollow people you've chosen to follow, but anyone can talk to you whether you follow them or not. He's not the only Steeler who's spoken out about abusive fans this week as I've seen multiple others, but he made "news" because articles about his Bin Laden tweet attracted so much attention for media outlets. I saw the tweet on my timeline and didn't think anything of it. Later, I saw the "news" headline about it and thought- 'that's news??'.

Re: Mendenhall calls out steelers fans on his twitter

You aren't kidding about that "tweeting" stuff. Yesterday I read a post on Facebook from James Harrison where he actually called out a fan by name and blasted him for posting that it was going to be a "long season" for the fans. These players are getting a little thin skinned and need to stop reading all social media and get backdown to business.

I agree that they shouldn't be on social media, nothing good come from it but why do fans get a shield of protection? If you are going to be a dick and say **** to these guys on twitter, then expect to take some heat back, otherwise stfu.

If I was an owner I would have strict rules that forbid facebook and twitter accounts . Dont like it then dont sign

This is friggin ridiculous these professional players allow themselves to be sucked in by disingenuous fans.

The internet allows you to be or do anything you wish for the most part and alot of these idiots talking smack would not do it if had to be face to face.

Too much attention is paid to the social aspect of these players. Walk away from your keyboard and get in shape so you dont look so foolish on the field.

Fans are fickle, at best. Still, I don't think it's ever a good idea to take that battle on. The fan base, for anything in life, is what it is and always will be. You take the good with the bad and move on. I would stay away from anything that even remotely resembles calling it out. Nothing good can come of it.

I think pros, in whatever arena, know this, live it and love it. It's all part of the game in the grand scheme of things.

    my 2 cents

Easy to say that, but suppose Rooney had the rules that you want, and Mendenhall (and Pouncey before him) twittered what they did. What would you do? Cut them? Bench them next week? I doubt it. Fine them? Well, you'll be limited by the NFLPA agreement, maybe you can ding them $1000 or so, but probably not much more than that, so why bother.

Look, I agree that players look like idiots when they twitter, (and so other celebrities and Congressman named after hot dogs). I wish they'd wise up, but they don't. And they never did in the past. It's just now that can express their assinity instantly to the whole world.

Lets Say if.. I'm not confident our defense is gonna hold up this year..my stance is If I was given an opportunity I would trade Mendenhall for a 2nd round pick in '13 (giving us 2 2nd round picks), then signing a good Free Agent running back next year? Wishful thinking on my part. But we could do a lot of good things under this scenario.

I'm 31 and been a Steelers fan since 92.. thats how I feel about Mendy.. I'd rather be 11 again and watch Bubby Brister throw another pass then be 31 and see the worst running back of my time complaining about the fans

I believe Mendenhall's contract is up this year. If you want to trade him, you have to sign him first. And I'd suspect he'd rather decide for himself which team to go as a FA, rather than have the Steelers FO decide for him.

Mendy is not gonna get traded. I would be shocked if that happened. We have seen or at least we should have seen with Mendy hurt this year that we don't have a running back on this roster that can be a good solid starter.

OK, I suppose you could, but nobody is going to give you a 2nd pick for 8 games from a soon-to-be FA RB who's less than a year from knee surgery. I'm mean could you get even a 5th rounder for that?

Mendy is 100% correct but he's got to leave the talking up to the Steelers PA office.

I'm with you. Now, Mendenhall isn't allowed to have an opinion.

It's not like the guy came back from ACL surgery 3 months earlier than normal to help beat the Eagles.
