Maybe you should have said, "they are like comparing apples to oranges". Wait, they are both fruit and they each have a skin...that wouldn't work. How about comparing Honda to Porsche...nope they both have wheels and an engine. Really???

This is all true enough. But the draft is also something of a crap-shoot, and hindsight is a great thing. At the time, I was psyched about Sweed... finally a tall receiver, etc. Nobody could have scouted that he was going to have whatever psycholoigcal issues he had.

Mendy has had issues with injuries, and that hurts his stats next to Forte or Kevin Smith. But Ray Lewis was more responsible for that than Mendy himself. Plus the bad o-line. I know these are all the same tired excuses... but they're true.

I hope Mendy can make it back. I like him as the Steelers feature RB.

The more I look around the net, all this "Mendy out for 2012" talk is all just speculation based on the fact that Kevin Colbert said it takes a year. WTF does Colbert know about rehabbing Mendy's knee? That's not a knock on him but c'mon...

He could be looking at historical data. Here is a quote from a study that was done on WRs and RBs that had ACL surgery.

Data were analyzed for 31 players with 33 ACL injuries. Of the injured players, 21 percent (7 of 33 ACL injuries) never returned to play in another regular season NFL game. Of the 79 percent that did return, most players returned to action 9 to 12 months after an ACL injury.

i think what some are missing in this is , he tore two. acl and mcl. this surgery was a complete reconstruction of his knee. there are different degrees of tears also. he's got a long row to hoe to come back anywhere near where he was.

But if Mendy can come back healthy, he can be used properly with Haley. You know something other than run plays up the middle. Some toss plays to the outside with a good FB blocking??

Another wrinkle for the drama unfolding in Pittsburgh is the health of Rashard Mendenhall, whose 2011 season came to a premature end with a torn ACL. A right knee injury sustained by the Steelers' running back may also sideline him for all of 2012. General manager Kevin Colbert said Monday that Mendenhall is likely to open next season on the physically unable to perform list, as he works his way back from an injury that can be devastating for running backs. "I never feel good about an ACL until (after) a year," Colbert said. "I'm not a doctor, but that's just my mindset. If he gets back before that, it's a bonus." Colbert's math when it comes to ACL injuries wouldn't bode well for Mendenhall suiting up next season since he went down Jan. 1.

This is my thinking too. Plus, who's to say he'll be good after that.

FWP wasn't the same and thay was just a simple broken bone, not the most crucial knee ligament.

Could the leg really be what happened to FWP, It doesn't seem to make sense and I never heard of that happening before? A leg bone killing a career like that I mean...

If it takes a full year to recover, then Mendy can be back for the playoffs next year. That could be a nice boost for us to have a healthy Mendy at a time when many players are recovering from injuries.

I dont understand all the hate for mendy who is one of 5 rbs to have 3500 yards and 29 tds over the last 3 years so hes doing something right. Also i believe he is now in fourth on the steelers all time rushing list.

I'm not sure if it is hate or just frustration. Mendy seems like he tippy-toes and/or spins when he gets ready to hit the line of scrimamge more than he doesn't and that drastically reduces his chances going forward.

Well Mendy will have a real hard time getting his starting job back.....IMO Redman will play at such a level that even when Mendy gets back a 50/50 split will be the best he can do......I actually think they should both be on the field together most of the time, but there is no doubt Redman will win the hearts of all by the time Mendy is ready to come back...
