If true that’s a shame. But surely he knew he was here to rotate with Highsmith?

This is another one of those situations that just boggles the mind. He had limited offers before. Pittsburgh brought him in and offered him a contract. We would have to assume he knew what that entailed. He was veteran depth signed to spell Watt and Highsmith. He had solid production in that role. The one time he got more snaps was when Watt left with an injury and by the 3rd he was so gassed he was chasing plays instead of making them. So why is he unhappy with playing time.

At the same time Butler and Tomlin are almost religiously stupid when it comes to playing time for their guys vs the guys who are actually better. If player y is better than player X that is what should matter and not the fact that player X has been with you for 5 years. Play the guys that help you win.

    Its just stupid.

This is what I don't understand. Was he promised a starting Job?

It should be no surprise to him that he was signed to backup TJ and Highsmith.

An in ordinate number of players league wide Arron one year prove it deals. Anyone of them getting less than full starter time wants to be somewhere else.

    Ingram
    Washington
    JuJu (injury)

I am not sure as to how this applies to the OLB position for Ingram? Are you talking about Watt as player X?

The Steelers are being short-sighted if he's only a rotational guy when the other two aren't 100%. This is how guys wear down and get hurt/are ineffective at the end of the year.

I'm using x and y as place holders instead of player named. In this case it probably doesn't apply to Ingram currently but in the past they have played guys that were on the roster longer over guys who weren't but who were better. The injuries on the defensive line have forced a lot of mixing and matching of linebackers and defensive backs where we have seen guys playing and going ok why is that player in there.

i heard on another web board that reporter Aditi commonly posts click-bait like this.

Cardinals? it's J.J. Watt that's injured and he's a DL. And arizona had 3 DL coming back from injury. Where'd she get that?

further, arizona had to restructure DL Phillips to get zach ertz leaving only $2 million under the cap. not enough for ingram i believe.

He's not being asked to be a jack of all trades LB either which is weird. He doesn't play special teams, I don't think he drops into coverage on TE'S or God forbidden a speedy slot receiver. He is rushing the QB and getting after the running back. If he wants an expanded role would you think he'd offer to do something besides those two roles?

Ingram cost them Roche. That is who Ingram replaced when he signed.

As nor said above, not clear if this is an accurate report or just rumor mongering.

Between Watt, Highsmith, and Ingram, they had 212% of the defensive snaps.
Even if the team never uses a formation with only 1 OLB on the field, they had more than a few plays with 3 OLBs on the field.
If the team plans to keep running those formations, they are not going to deal away their 3rd OLB without a plan B ready.

Highsmith is playing better than Ingram, so that might explain the uneven rotation when the players are healthy.
ESPN's Walder made a plot for EDGE players, a graph with "win rate" for passes and rushes. For the 50 players on that graph, Watt is at the top corner by himself. (Dupree is at the lower corner. There are worse players, but they weren't on the graph.) SteelersDepot Alex asked Walder about players not on the graph. Highsmith was down a bit from Watt, and Ingram was up a bit from Dupree.

Don't trust any of them. Its shock and awe reporting for ratings. Its tough business they're in and now when a rumor/report comes in they now preface it by saying, First reported by Dingleberry Jones or by throwing feces on the web (since she's Stains fan) via Twitt or Instacrap, or whatever people are tuned into.

I don’t know. She comes on every week on one of the 93.7 The Fan shows. She struck me as a big enough Yinzer cheerleader that she’d fit right in with the rest of PGH local Sports Media.

I don’t doubt Ingram wants out. From his perspective he’s an aging vet, who took a low ball contract in a low cap yr and needs to get playing time to get a better one next yr. currently that ain’t happening here.

I think he only had 17 snaps last game? So that may have fueled the rumor. That and KC allegedly making a trade offer. I’d like to see him get more snaps, to keep the guys fresh, but Watt is tough to take off the field and Highsmith is starting to find his rhythm.

Then he shouldn’t be playing OLB which is part of their job

I been waiting to see if Mark Madden does his time to trade the big 3 for the Pens routine. Crosby and Malkin out with injury and now Letang is out on Covid protocol and they are still managing to win games and not struggling to do it. This typically when Madden goes off on this trade them away now and get top value which shows he doesn't know as much about hockey as he thinks he does. 14 year streak of sellout crowds just came to an end and it wasn't due to protocol it was due to who was starting. Pretty sure he will jump on this too
