I know there was a lot of people predicting he was going to be a force this season, so far he's been average at best.
    Thoughts?

    This.

In the first two games, he was pretty disruptive I thought.

He has been average. Just like Ziggy has been average. Average doesn't it cut it.

I agree here. I root for him because he's a Troy Alum. But he probably would be better served at End.

He's no Hampton and I think the fact that we're 25th against the run this year reflects that. He just doesn't clog up the middle the way Hampton did. And I haven't noticed him being a "disruptive force" this year. Shoot, I don't think anybody on the Steelers D can be categorized as disruptive this year.

I don't know Jack. I've seen them bickering at each other and they seem to do a nice job of disrupting one another, at times!

Working as intended....at least as this season goes. He's no more or no less impressive than any other player on D right now. I was hoping he'd make a nice improvement over the aging Hampton but I also can't complain about his play either.

He has been a disappointment so far I thought he would make more plays in the back field like he did last season.

Just not a true anchor at the 0 tech IMO..He seems more suited to play a 3 tech in a 4 man front IMO ....

I am rady to go to a 4 man front we lack the talent on the back end to make the 3-4 work correctly...Plus you can't lay the wood like in days past which hurts a 3-4 scheme as well...

OK, I will be the first to admit, that I don`t usually watch what the linemen do, once the ball gets snapped(Unless you count looking at who can keep the D off Ben...)....
I`m just a casual fan, and love seeing defensive ends like Keisel, or our dearly departed Aaron Smith, get to the qb, on occasion, it`s just not really what LeBeau expects/wants them to do...
(Maybe that`s different this year, and I would welcome it... seems that way, if you pay attention to "Tha Beard"..)

Anyhow... I just don`t think you can compare McCledon(or anyone else), to Hampton...
Hampton was one fat ass body, that no one could move, so he could take up a couple blockers, and take away the inside run game. PERIOD>
You did NOT expect him to pressure the qb.(except for when he got pissed once or twice on b-crap calls by the ref`s, and made me wonder why Dick didn`t just tell him... "Go kill the qb, Casey, he has your Ho-Ho`s"...)...

I Guess what I am tryin to say is, McClendon can kick ass in the middle of the line, but it`s gonna be more because he is "disruptive', can blow up plays in the backfield, etc... not because he is gonna stand in one spot, and challenge two blockers to take him on, like Casey could...
I know I`m in the minority here, but I still believe leBeau isd gonna adapt to the talent he has available.
Then, All we gotta do, is score 20 points a game...
    Go STEELERS

The Steelers will need better play from Mclendon vs the run or they will need a better NT.

we are not set up with D-linemen that are big enough to take up blockers like in the past. our guys now are quicker more than stout at the point of attack. if we actually played to our strength's now and let them shoot the gaps and use their quickness instead of trying to use undersized guys to tie up blockers heads up, we may have something.

keisel has lost weight this year. ziggy lost a lot last year. heyward was said to have lost 20 lbs. this year. mclendon I thought was better when he weighed a little less. we could have something if we used what we have the right way. this would get the same results I believe from o-linemen in having to scramble to stay with them shooting gaps.

it still would tie up the o-line but in a different manner. speed kills on defense. the jets d-line shoots these guys into the backfield through the gaps and it's working quite well for them. it's causing the o-lines to turn and chase as these guys are shooting by them.

In keeping with what you stated, teams are running up the middle. Even when Hampton was old, out of shape and slow, teams did not run up the middle.

We're clearly transitioning the defense in this way: different kinds of players filling the holes others are leaving. But you're right that we seem to still be hanging on to the old schemes. We can't expect McLendon to replicate Hampton's work, because if we wanted a guy like that we would have gone and got us someone with twice the appetite.
