To be honest, I can't say he's the best - I want to draft the 2 LB's from Ohio and be done with it but that's not going to happen.
But Highsmith clearly has not lived up to his contract. He played lights out the season before.
Also because of the 14.5 sack season, and because he does have quite a few 50+ tackle game, He presents good trade value, more so than Herbig..
That adds value in the draft or maybe a stretch but possibly a player. (I'd rather go with youth in the draft)
Since we've played a number of games without and did well enough, the 'sacrifice' makes sense. We win in younger player, cap, and as long as we get a player that contributes, skills.

I can pretty much guarantee this is being mulled over as they draw up the wants and needs board, along with multiple other scenarios.
I would acknowledge that they would not accept anything under value.

But there's little value is debating this... I think it is common knowledge that most anything is up for trade as long as it benefits the team.
We want a Lombardi.
But I am also positive Herbig will not net us as much a Highsmith will. That's my issue with all the Herbig for a QB nonsense.

I wonder who was the last guy we traded after we'd restructured their contract (although the AH restructure was 2024).

It's only betting the chalk, but my guess is that he plays out his contract with us. He was probably our best edge rusher last season. 9.5 sacks despite missing 4 games.

But the thing that IMO has always stood out with Highsmith is that he's always been very good at getting TFLs because he has a great get off. He had 15 last season (in a 3 way tie for t-8th in the league).

Herbig was also strong in this area with 13 TFLs. He played in more gams than AH, but generally a smaller role. Snap counts were similar: NH had 610 snaps and AH had 634. I wonder what a comparison of usage (down/distance) would look like

I would agree with you in the fact that he plays it out here.
Omar will never be confused with an aggressive GM.
But if I am a betting man, I'd wager on your line.
The point being, if a trade is to be made, Highsmith would be the better option to net more value and be less disruptive since Herbig is pretty good as well.

Maybe but what I wrote is common sense. Comparing a QB that was a project and a rookie to a guy that is a vet isnt anywhere near the same thing.
