I think that makes 3 of us that feel bad for him. I have nothing against the guy but I really don't think he is a starting NFL QB.

I join you in your sympathy. I think a lot of fans feel the same. I like Mason. The guy is a competitor. It's just that his skill set doesn't match up with his competitiveness.

Mason just isn’t a Steelers type QB. It’s really hard to explain, but to QB the Steelers you just have to have that Blue color mentality. Mason doesn’t have it. But Tom Brady wouldn’t be what he is today if he was a Steelers QB.

No other words are truer than a system QB. That was Brady and I feel if Mason was giving the proper system he could be something. But definitely not for us.

I actually do feel bad for Mason. He did everything right in camp, worked his tail off and said all the politically correct things in camp to be a team player. I'll say I was in the 25% rooting for him in the battle against Trubisky. I think there seems to be more to the story than we know for him not to get a fair shot during camp. He seems to have offended someone, but he did keep taking the high road. I think Mason will be traded sometime within the first few weeks. I hope he goes where he has a shot at being QB2 before season's end and next year can get a shot elsewhere. My guess is he won't be traded for a 2023 draft pick, but an O-Lineman this year. If anything his value may go up early in the season as QB injuries pile up.

Likeable guy, I wish him well. But he's had opportunities to show us what he is...and he has. He's a backup quarterback that throws a pretty deep ball. He's also a quarterback that gets pre-occupied with pressure and is not intuitive in navigating the pocket. He'll make a good career as a backup and float around the league for a few years much like Colt McCoy. He's a smart guy, the kind of guy you want your starting quarterback talking to between series, and may have a career in coaching one day.

Mason isn't an NFL type QB. He's Landry Jones without the confidence.
He's the mistake that Ben caused and this organization needs to come to that reality and cut ties with him.

I must agree with you that Ben caused it. He floated retirement in order to get Haley fired, then when Mason was drafted, he acted surprised stating he was going to play well into his 40's. Ben did not welcome Mason into the fold and did nothing to help him along the way. Right now Ben could be sitting back proud of what Mason accomplished and that he played a role in it. Instead, Mason has had a rough go and Ben can be part of the blame for that.

I think Mason had a descent shot at replacing Big Ben until the second that he sustained the Ravens hit and injury. He was never the same after. then he was given one last shot last year during the Lions game to show he is next in line and he laid an egg against the Lions at home in cold weather and rain. He had no shot after that and i don't feel bad for him. So he had a nice camp. big whoopy. His fate was sealed when we tied that crap lions team and drafted Pickett #1. He is getting paid to not show up for games for a year and then will be selling insurance or playing in some Arena league if it still exists.

Add to the list: Career potential stalled because we won`t get "blown away" by an offer and we need somebody as 3rd string anyway.

The way out for him would be to complain in the media. Tomlin says "we don`t want hostages" and I think public complaining would spark a move by management.

I really hope things turn out for Mitch and Pickett this year and that is a fact. However, soon we'll find out if the haters will look like football guru's and were right about Pickett, or the complete opposite. No one has proven anything to me yet so all the love fest that is being shown is based on practice games, practice plays, practice game planning, absolute hate of MR, and so on with things that don't count. Wishing Mitch success. If Pickett gets in, he lights it up huge. That will be what matters to me, nothing before. JMO>

Agreed, I think the QB Depth chart "Error", will cause Mason to change his tune about towing the company line in public.

He has been publicly disgraced by Tomlin & Company. Told he had the #2 QB job and would be suiting up for the Cincinnati game, now will be in street clothes if he is allowed to even travel with the team.

I can't wait to hear exactly what Mason was told after 1st depth chart was released and then what he was told after Tomlin said Mason was #3, and would not be active for the Cincinnati game. There is also the possibility that this was a simple clerical error like Tomlin said and Mason had already been told that he would be the #3 QB before the depth chart was released to the public, so he never believed, or was ever told he had won the backup job.

Maybe 2 years ago I would agreed with you, but starting last year he just looked 100% better in the pocket and I'm hoping he gets a chance some where

I think that was the point. He was clearly behind the other 2, so to call it a competition was "fake."

    He's not

Blame Tomlin, he can't seem to shake him or know what to do with him.

it's not Mason's fault that is just OK - it is Tomlin's fault that we still don't know what to do w him and that he is on the roster.

Poor guy seems like he needs a hug. I do not want to see him ever on the field for the Steelers again, but hopefully he gets a backup role somewhere.

Mason is absolutely a class act and all around good guy. We all know everyone would pick Ben in his prime over Mason on the field. But off the field you would pick Mason over Ben to watch over your intoxicated daughter at the bar.
