Don't get me wrong...I think the kid is off to a good start but they showed a stat that his yards per throw in the air is HISTORICALLY LOW. I think it is 3 yards per pass. And for the night, his average pass distance (in the air) was actually NEGATIVE.

Then as the announcers say this he throws a 40 yard TD bomb to Johnson. My question is whether Rudolph is like Flacco meaning he only throws checkdowns and horizontal passes 75% of the time and the other 25% are deep bombs, which admittedly he looks pretty good at. Is he capable of throwing intermediate touch passes?

To me, that is why Brady is a GOAT -- his intermediate game is unrivaled.

Rudolph reminds me of Alex Smith. He throws passes that are safe and short with a low risk of being intercepted. This isn't faint praise you can win a lot games playing this way.

He better not be Alex Smith lol.. He played in a system at ok state where he threw a lot of long balls.. Hopefully they open up the playbook more each week for him

If Mason Rudolph wins a Super Bowl like Flacco, I will take it.

Me too, because that would mean our defense carried the team. Flacco doesn't sniff a SB without Lewis/Reed & Co.

While I'd like him to take a shot down field now and then, and I'd like less to be behind the line of scrimmage, I'd much rather him throw just far enough to get 1st downs and keep the ball (and defense resting) than to keep taking long shots too often.

Defenses aren't going to let him and the Steelers get away with just throwing short for long. They'll make the Steelers prove that the WR's can get open, MR can make the proper reads and decisions, and that he can throw it somewhat down the field effectively.

Continual game of adjusting and counter-adjusting.

Well Flacco won a Super Bowl, and was SB MVP, if MR can do that fine with me.

Have you people watched our offense the last couple years? Ben has been the king of 1-2 yard passes.

They helped to get the Ravens there, but in the actual game the Ravens defense gave up 468 total yards. including 182 rushing yards. Flacco threw for 3 TDs with a passer rating of 124.

Okay, you got me. I didn't watch the game, didn't care to. Had no idea the Ratbird D gave up those kind of numbers. And I totally forgot about Flacco being named MVP. So in light of your info, I'll humbly change my opinion to:
    ME TOO!!!

I don’t see why there such a problem with taking what the defense gives you. Is the alternative of forcing the ball better?
I don’t mind at all the pick your poison approach. If they want to give us the short stuff we gladly take it and use up the clock and keep our D fresh. If they want to tighten that up we have a QB whose strength is accuracy throwing deep.
The biggest weakness is short yardage right now. If we can figure that out MR and this offense will be just fine....

Yeah, I get that we can't do this all the time but if it's working there is no reason to force anything. If the 7 or 8 yard gimme is there I am fine with Rudolph taking it every time so long as we aren't behind the chains. No reason to try anything riskier when the easy play is enough.

Tom Brady's second start against the Dolphins-

    12-24 86 Yds 4 sacks- longest completion 15 yards.

Not comparing Rudolph to Brady but even the good ones are limited early on.

Flacco is capable of intermediate throws. I'm actually surprised it never became a strength because he's got such a powerful arm.

Rudolph's lack of intermediate throws is a real concern for that reason. He doesn't have a great arm. I worry that he can't fire the 15-yard out to a wide receiver. Guys who don't have great arms can sometimes be effective on deep throws through touch and accuracy, both of which Rudolph seems to have. He needs to prove he can make all the throws or defenses will figure him out very quickly.

You’re setting up the defense and having them play on their heels. As long as we are capable of adjusting to what they do it’s gonna work. I know it’s frowned upon around here but our performance on O was very NE like in the way we killed them with 1,000 cuts and then went after them deep.

3 incomplete passes may have been communication errors.
    Ball landed in open field.

He is way cool in the pocket.

He also throws a lot of long bombs on 3rd and short, at least too many for my liking.
