i wouldn't hate the rudolph pick at 28. we would probably deal landry to someone, or cut him saving 1.6 mil. and keeping dobbs with a smaller contract. i like landry but this would seem sensible.

I wouldn't hate it either but I wouldn't like it. I am a all in guy the next 2 years and I do not want the Steelers to use a pick in the top 2-3 rounds on a guy we may not need for 3 years. With that said if something were to happen to Ben it would be a heck of an option to have a QB like this sitting waiting instead of Landry. Kinda a catch 22, I will complain either way I think lol. In a perfect world I would like a Falk or White in round 3-4 as that fall back option. :smiley1:

Funny you mention Jackson I keep reading his name linked to us at 28 I just don't like it either. IMO, if we want a guy like this wait and get Ferguson later in the draft, poor mans Jackson but since we have Ben no need to jump at QB in round 1. Funny thing is with drafting Dobbs last year I feel we are moving more in the direction of mobile QB's no?

as a backup thats not a bad thing because they tend to have to run more. he comes with brains though.

rudolphs name coming up in a meeting with washington at the same time is interesting to say the least. maybe one is giving insight to the other for us.

A QB is not in my draft plans this year with Ben coming out and said he wants to play for years.

That being said, unlike last year, I won't be mad if we take a QB.

This QB class may not have that elite guy, but it is such a solid group of QBs with alot of depth it seems ridiculous not to take one of them.

I love Lamar Jackson, I think he ultimately could be the most productive guy from this class but he does not fit on our team as a passing QB. The team that takes Jackson has to completely change their scheme to fit Jackson's strengths.

Given the talent we have in Brown, Bell, the O line, Juju, it just doesn't make sense for us to take Jackson.

If the Browns were to take Barkley at #1, Nelson at #4 and then trade up to take Jackson in the 20s - I would be extremely nervous.

As for this thread, if we took Rudolph at #28 I can live with it. Before Ben came out and reaffirmed his commitment to play, I had been banging the table for Rudolph since the start of the season. He is a prototypical passing QB.

And I saw a mock yesterday that had the cards trading up from 15 to 8 and drafting him, so it's all over the map on who will draft him just like every draft...

    Rudolf mediocre at combine:

    1. The good news: Mason Rudolph has the size (6'5", 235 lbs), the experience (three years as a starter at Oklahoma State) and the numbers (63.2 completion rate, 9.4 yards-per-attempt average, 92-to-26 touchdown-to-interception ratio) that you want in a top-flight quarterback prospect. It also helps that he's a good decision-maker who rarely makes big mistakes.

The bad news: His arm doesn't blow anyone away, he's often a bump on a log in the pocket, and he accumulated those big numbers as part of a spread offense against often weak competition.

Combine notes: His lack of athleticism came through when he finished dead last among quarterbacks with a 26-inch vertical, but he did prove in passing drills he has the arm strength to chuck it at the NFL level. That's more important.

Why he's ranked No. 5: Rudolph appears to at least have what you want in a backup, which is why he'll probably have a long NFL career. That said, look beyond the numbers and there are some question marks.
