A good-sized CB at 6ft 197lbs that ran a 4.36 at the combine, and had a 42 inch vertical jump.

Wouldn't be shocked if he is play for 17. Yes, I am quite serious about that as well.... rather, in play should Joey Porter Jr not be available. I would still opt to go for an Offensive Lineman here but Banks literally made "bank" at the combine; something that usually does not equate to much.

I had mentioned him in another thread. So far I’ve just watched one of his games. In their loss vs. Michigan he looked good for 3 quarters, but was directly responsible for giving up 2 4th quarter TDs in a close loss. I’m not going to say he’s not worth taking at #17 just because of 1 bad quarter, but it didn’t make a good first impression. I’ll be watching more for sure.

Beware the workout warrior. If no one considered him a first rounder just by looking at his tape (and be honest, one, two weeks ago he wasn't in any discussions to be a first rounder), why would his 40 time change that?

Please no! No one was talking about him as a first rounder until the combine. The tape tells as much as the combine if not more.

Generally I abhor the trade back chatter, but this year there are a lot of players I covet in the late first and second round. If Kahn could somehow manage to trade back in the first and snag Torrence in the first, Banks, and darnel Washington I would be elated. I know Washington is kind of a luxury pick, but he needs to be a steeler.

LOL, that's because most of the so called internet GM's don't dig very deep to look at guys from places like maryland. the guy that played opposite him ain't too bad either.

To say that internet GMs don't dig to deeply is a truism. But I don't care what internet GMs think. NFL scouts look at every single Division 1 program very closely. He is not worth a day one pick. Now that's just my opinion but I think it will prove to be right. Draft buzz lists this guy as the 7th vest DB in the draft. Bennett isn't even listed in the top 10. Now I understand that that is just one site's opinion but it's the one you used. I just don't think this guy is worthy of a day 1 pick. We have way more pressing needs rather than taking a chance on this guy day one. Just my opinion.

Actually he was always a late first early 2ns type. Because of his cover skills. And his athletism simply shows why he was often so sticky. I don't think he has the aggression you look for in the mi

Which means if he's there at 32/49 he's value. At 17 he isn't.

This....Game tape, and combine must work hand in hand....not separately.
Now this is not saying a guy will succeed, or fail, but I believe if game doesn't match ability.....You are taking a chance....even more than the draft already is.
I mean You can swim up river to reach the other side, but why work so hard???

    Um..

Deonte Banks was a Top 50 Player before the Combine. His biggest questions was his long speed; something that sadly only the combine can answer. Given how well he answered that, in addition to his tape, he is worth considering in Round One. How high remains to be seen but I would rather have Banks over Kelee Ringo.

Ringo just..... disappointed me man. All that talent but so little to show for it. If anything, that screams "Artie Burns 2.0" far more than Banks ever could.

I was a huge Ringo fan not long ago. Now I'm not sure how to feel about him. There are five or so corners I would consider before him.

I believe I said that already :) Like him as an option at 32 if we don't take a Corner at 17.

ON SNR Lolley and Williamson said they would be interested in Banks in a trade down scenario in the first round.

Never said it had to be a day one pick. That's the point. As far as scouts looking at every D1 program, yes but there are many players in D1 and every other division in college football and there are only so many scouts, and like anything else one man's trash is another man's treasure. Subjectivity.

Ringo might be able to play some safety if he doesn't cut it at CB.

Maybe, but it might take him a long time to accept that kind of change. Also, I think he may be just fine at corner in a zone-heavy scheme, kind of like Josh Norman a few years back.

Banks vs Porter AT #32 who you got?

I keep saying that Joey Porter is going to still be on the board at #32, but if both Banks and Porter are still there should I be leaning towards Banks instead?

As for Tomlin, it would be fun to see what he does trying to decide between his love for Maryland players and a kid he has watched play his entire life.

I don't think there's any way in hell that Porter is available at 32... Simply because if he is available at 17, he's probably a Steeler. There are plenty of quality corners in the draft this year, so a slide just based on team preferences is possible. However, a guy with his measurables and an NFL family pedigree doesn't last into the second round like that.

Porter is just a certain type of corner. If we are going heavy zone, then Porter might not be the guy. But if you want a long physical guy to take the other team's #1 all over the field in press man coverage? Porter is that guy. There is a good enough crop available that we probably have a good idea on what type of player we want at the position and who fits that bill the best.

Funnily, those are the very same skills Banks is lauded for. Smooth hips, sticky like gum. But yes, we will take Porter because of the history.

It would have already been uncomfortable passing on him at 17. Can't do it 2ixe. That would be sacrilegious.
