A friend of mine just text me and said they were floating this out there on Sirrius radio. Any takers?

I am not a fan of this at all, but it seems like something Tomlin would do if Butler goes.

As long as he doesn't have say in personnel, then bring him in for an interview.

He did one hell of a good job in Baltimore. I will give him that.

Can’t see him stepping down on the Coaching ladder.

    Probably end up on tv.

Perfect for Tomlins staff. His press conferences are exactly the same as Mikes. Both of them could talk for hours and not actually even say anything.

Hey I would be for it. He was a really good defensive coordinator. Better than Butler. He was the defensive coordinator for that vaunted Ravens defense in 2000 games if I remember correctly. We need a change at defensive coordinator like two years ago, maybe longer.

Some guys just weren't cut out to be HC's, and excel as Coordinators. I think Lewis is probably one of those cats (see what I did there?).

That being said, I find it hard to fathom him not only taking a step down after so many years as HC, but also to the hated division rival Steelers. Would be interesting, though.

Marvin was a coach for the Steelers and was born and raised in McDonald PA. He does not hate the Steelers at all. He's probably hoping he gets a phone call from the Rooneys.

Well, there you go. Make it happen.

Of course, that would be assuming Butler is gone. Which at this point, there are no guarantees. Someone else is going to be the sacrificial lamb.

I wouldn't want Marvin as a DC. He ran a loose ship in Cincinnati the same way as Tomlin has done in Pittsburgh. Neither of them can keep a disciplined group of players focused.

I guess Tomlin’s mistake is expecting adults to act like adults. If Tomlin was letting players run wild Brown would have played Sunday in a must win game despite missing a week of practice.

Instead Tomlin told him to sit his ass on the bench knowing it could have cost them the game. I feel like Marvin Lewis would have let him play.

    I would love it:

Lewis had coaching internships with the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers before being hired as the linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1992. He was a member of the Steelers' staff when the team lost Super Bowl XXX to the Dallas Cowboys.

The newly relocated Baltimore Ravens (formerly the Cleveland Browns), hired Lewis as their defensive coordinator in 1996, a position that he held for six seasons (1996–2001). In 2000, the Ravens defeated the New York Giants 34–7 in Super BowlXXXV thanks largely to a defense that allowed the fewest rushing yards (970) and the fewest points (165) in a 16-game regular season. "If ever a man proved his worth as a future head coach, Marvin Lewis did it with this complete domination of the Giants in their 16 possessions: Punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, interception, punt, interception, interception, punt, interception, punt, punt, punt, end of game", wrote Sports Illustrated writer Michael Silver after the game.[8]

Which is why I prefaced it with "as long as he has no say in personnel". Our D unit doesn't have the attitude problems that our O seems to breed. Lewis is clearly superior in X's and O's to Butler - so to me it would be worth having him here just for that. Let the HC worry about player discipline - after all, that is his job.

yea he probably is better X and O's then Butler, but that's not saying much. Lewis was DC for the Ravens almost 19 years ago. A lot of changes in the NFL since then. We could do better with someone younger with fresh ideas that also a good motivator and has some fire, which the defense really needs.

No thanks. Any one from the Lebeau defensive coaching tree need not apply. It's a reason why Haslett, Lebeau and Capers are out of the league. And hopefully Butler joins them soon.

I guess if he actually knows who's actually playing for the opposing offense and not game planning for guys that have been on IR for 3 months it's an improvement, but honestly I agree that we need a fresh direction. It would also preferably be someone who can identify and develop talent on defense that can have a say on draft day.

So you think he is just gonna forget how to coach.....if anything he has learned more making him a better DC. Not to mention he has knowledge of our division. I think this is all for nothing cause imo he will get a HC job some place.
