    BU - backup QB

He won’t see more that 5 million a year and won’t be starting anywhere unless he signs back here and Pickett fails or gets hurt.

5 mil a year sounds about right I'm guessing we'll find out soon enough.

I don't see him sitting around without a job like last time where they brought him back for cheap.

I've said since day 1 that we would be able to sign Rudolph with the money we got from Trubisky's release. Now whether or not Mason wants to come back is up to him... If he does re-sign here he likely ends up starting at some point (he either wins the job in camp outright or he gets handed the reigns after we've seen another partial season of Kenny Pickett football), so I do believe that Pittsburgh makes the most sense. He has the familiarity here, he has people and teammates that like and believe in him here... he doesn't really have that anywhere else. I can't see another situation being a better one for him that the Steelers unless he is guaranteed a starting job somewhere. I don't see that happening.

It's not going to be very warm, he's a long term backup QB, no-one is getting convinced he's worth much more based on a few good games. That's not how it works, too many teams have been burned in the past giving massive deal to QB's based on a good season, never mind a few good games.

LMAO. Great passer. Your undying, unthinking love for Rudolph truly knows no bounds.

Apparently....since there has been so much talk about Wilson, and Fields. Was Wilson not made a 2nd string Qb last year???
And what do you call a Qb with the record , and stats of Fields besides a 2nd string. We are not talking about Qb that's contract got too high....We are talking about Qb that their teams just didn't want anymore....in my eyes... that makes them BU.

If Wilson signs, I don't see Rudolph signing with the Steelers. Steelers will either have to draft a QB in later rounds or get a scrap heap, free agent QB. If they go the FA route.... get Minshew, Tyrod Taylor or Brissett.

I heard he was the highest rated quarterback for the last 4 games of the season

Actually I think I heard it about 12 times

He did that for FOUR GAMES??!! That’s almost as good as Brady’s 7 Super Bowls.

think it is HIGHLY unlike too UNLESS again, NO ONE inks him for months and we are still seeking a 3rd QB - but again, I think Mason earned the right at least for a #2 spot, if not a chance to compete for a #1 job against some of the bums out there, like Kenny and a handful of others, mentioned ad nauseam this offseason.

I wouldn't write off Pickett just yet. Wilson is getting up there in age... and my have some upcoming durability issues, especially with our O line... which hasn't been consistent since the days of Pouncey, DeCastro and Villanueva. Pickett may get more opportunities to start and prove himself. Plus he's got 3 years left on his rookie contract, he's cheap... and we can pick up his 5th year option, if needed.

2 years left. Going into his 3rd year.

I won’t believe the Steelers are giving up on a first rd pick after only two seasons until I see it. Especially a player they thought as highly of as Pickett.

Khan isn’t doing anything he said he wouldn’t do, he’s turning over every stone.

Any opinion at this point is premature. We obviously are "turning over every stone", but at the same time, if we were 100% sold that Kenny could still be the guy we wouldn't be entertaining other options.

I understand that this wouldn't be the Steelers normal MO, but this is a new Front Office and maybe a new era of thinking within it... They may have thought very highly of Pickett, but its impossible to have watched him for the last two years and to still think highly of him. I presume that thinking has changed a bit (as it should).

Why are they turning ever stone if Pickett is the guy? For a backup? Where is this ship sailing?

They have one QB on the roster right now. It doesn’t necessarily signify anything in regards to Pickett. Wilson is dreaming when he says he wants to play 5 more years and get two more SB’s. He’s probably more closely regarded as a backup than a starter now.

Russ Wilson is better than your starter. Significantly.

    My starter :lolol:

Some of you can keep your heads buried in the sand all you want but more than likely the Steelers will see what Pickett can do without Canada. Eisen was told specifically that Wilson has to compete with Pickett if he wants the job. He probably won’t agree to come here under those terms.

Thats the gist of my argument all along.

3 with 5th year option. Pickett was a 1st round draft pick.

And it is 2 more years on his rookie contract and then an extra year if they pickup his option. It is not 3 more cheap years.

If Picket rides the bench in 2024 are you picking up his fully guaranteed option for 25+ million next year?

It depends on which options were entertaining. If it’s Gardner Minshew, Jacoby Brissett and the like, then it doesn’t necessarily mean anything regarding the team’s view on KP. Russell Wilson is another matter. Regardless of what some dopey SI “source” said, Wilson is not coming to talk about a backup QB role. Also, if we’re legitimately interested in trading for Fields, it’s for him to be the starter. There wouldn’t be a competition.

I agree with this. Most teams do not start the season with only 1 QB on the roster. I have seen it done a couple of times when the team had their backups elevated from the practice squad for week 1.

Yeah, before all the Russell talk, I believed that the Steelers would bring in both Mason and Tannehill to compete with Kenny. Mason to compete for the long term spot, and Tannehill to show the other 2, how to best run Arthur Smith's offense. If Russell signs I don't think either Tannehill or Mason come to Pittsburgh.
