The way I understood it back when I worked in a medical lab, is that they take samples from flu patients around the world to look for antigen drift. Basically, the WHO compares the most common strains circulating to what vaccines are being used. If they see a trend, they adjust the vaccine. But even then, the strain can morph before a vaccine is out. It's a crap shoot.

    Nope

South America 6 months ago. It was their winter. What is down there tends to work its way up here 6 months later.

And as Ray said, other parts around the world that lead us virus wise.

Say Jeh - love the new avatar of your furry family - looks like they will be very pleased when the Steelers trounce the Pats this Sunday. My 6 puddin' head kitties will be right at my side too.

Stomach flu is better because the normal flu will pretty much disable you for weeks

Pats fans are worried because if you listen to Bradys presser he's clearly sick as well.

Brown is the only one that doesn't have it because he wasn't gathered up with the team post game.

Haha! I would never do such a thing to our guys. I felt like crap for about 5 days, although the first 3 were the worst. It wasn't fun and I just wanted to be left alone in my misery. :lolol:

Right. I was "pre-med" in college, and that was what I was taught. It takes several months to make the vaccine, and they use WHO findings to determine the next year's vaccine batch. Real soon, they'll be deciding what changes need to be made for next flu season's vaccine.

I am not to worried about them getting mild case of flu. When they get the flu they get A plus plus treatment ( they get hooked into IVs and get all the meds they need) When we get flu it is nyquil and zombie nation for 5 days. They will be fine. Now if somebody gets it day of or day before, that is different senerio ..........

They better have ports potties on the sideline, that 24 hour stomach flu will make you go in your pants of you ain't careful.

You'd have to run in the locker room, shower from the waist down, then put on clean pants. They aren't gonna let you play with poop all over your pants.

Right. This isn't the "flu", it's a stomach virus that typically passes :puking2: :poopy: in 24 hours or so.

Steelers better wear brown pants then
    Let me explain

Long ago, when sailing ships ruled the sea, this captain and his crew were always in danger of being boarded by pirates from a pirate ship.

One day while they were sailing, they saw that a pirate ship had sent a boarding party to try and board their ship. The crew became worried, but the Captain was calm.

He bellowed to his First Mate, "Bring me my red shirt!"

The First Mate quickly got the Captain's red shirt, which the captain put on. Then he led his crew into battle against the mean pirates. Although there were some casualties among the crew, the pirates were defeated.

Later that day, the lookout screamed that there were two pirate vessels sending two boarding parties towards their ship. The crew was nervous, but the Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, "Bring me my red shirt!" And once again the battle was on!

The Captain and his crew fought off the boarding parties, though this time more casualties occurred.

Weary from the battles, the men sat around on deck that night recounting the day's events when an ensignlooked at the Captain and asked, "Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before the battle?"

The Captain, giving the ensign a look that only a captain can give, explained, "If I am wounded in battle, the red shirt does not show the blood, so you men will continue to fight unafraid." The men sat in silence. They were amazed at the courage of such a man.

As dawn came the next morning, the lookout screamed that there were pirate ships, 10 of them, all with boarding parties on their way. The men became silent and looked to the Captain, their leader, for his usual command.

The Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, 'Bring me my brown pants!!!'
