Running to set up the pass still works to me.

I need to be more optimistic, cuz instead of enjoying the win I am frustrated that it takes Ben going down to see a return to fundamental game planning and play calling.

BTW, Batch looks pretty good. I have always felt he is a capable back up and had no reason to believe he wasn't still this year after doing well at the beginning of last year.
Good on the old dude :) Go get us these last 2.

What really surprised me was Batch's ability to stay on his feet. Really utilised his experience today. I think it didn't hurt us that we were running on the Rams like a knife through butter. This hasn't been the case in other games - not only because of the playcalling, but also because of the opposing D, poor o-line play, etc.

So in short, I'm ecstatic about the result, very pleased with the gameplan - but I'm not going to read too much into it in terms of how we might have played if Ben was healthy.

Agree with above, but the Rams are terrible. The Niners aren't.

Yeah, let's not forget who we were playing. Mendy was able to score with just one play

Yep. I'd like to say that Clay looked great but it wasn't a great D to judge him on. Still, I remember folks being quite high on him before the season.

So next season we may have Mendenhall, Redman, Dwyer, Moore, Batch and Clay to choose from... not a bad situation to be in.

Clay did score following Mendy's big run. But I was referring to the 1st and Goal after the Wallace catch at the one. Mendy scored on the next play, a big improvement from a few weeks ago.

Like the Emperor always said, football is not complicated,
you have to be able block and tackle, Granted this was a Ram team that
has packed it in for the year. Nice effort Rams, you guys don't desrve a pay check.

I posted this a couple of years ago, but it still holds - when Batch is the QB, the Steelers give up very few sacks. In this game, none. Now you can say that the oline magically improved, or it was the poor team that we played, or whatever, but like I said, this isn't the only this time Batch completes a game with 0 sacks. It goes back a few years. Others might say, well Ben holds the ball too long but it is worth it beause of what he makes happen. I'd agree with that to some extent. What I will say is that Ben could actually cut down on the sacks a bit without giving up the big plays if he was willing and the coaches could actually coach him.

I say we are fortunate to have Batch as a back-up.

It is what it is. Because Ben didn't play, Arians called more run plays, plus it was only the Rams at home. If Ben had played it would have been more of the same, pass, pass, pass. What it comes down too is, Ben is running things and Arians lets him do what he wants to do, throw the football. They want to be Brees, Brady, Manning like in throwing the football. The truth is, they are not and never will be like the big three. However, Arians is always going to try and fit a square peg in a round hole!!!

What a riot :lolol: Is it Ben or is it BA ? Make up your mind. If Ben's in the game of course they're gonna pass more. There's over 100M reasons (that'd be $) they'd do that. If Ben's talent is NOT equvalent to the likes of Manning, Brady or Brees then you'd have to ask yourself why the Steelers would be giving him Franchise QB type money to begin with. Why not just go with Charlie as a game manager and run the ball til the wheels fall off like all of the BA complainers are asking for. I'll tell ya why not. We don't play poor run stopping D's like the rams every week. In the grand scheme of things if we had real studs on the offensive line we'd be scoring more points because the run game would be working better and other teams would have to respect it more. Offensive production would be up in spite of BA and not because of him. More often than not it's the players that make the coaches look good or bad and not the other way around unless the coach is very exceptional and those coaches are very few and far between.
