Isn't this where someone is supposed to say the players want him so they have to sign him?

Bell isn't going to beat out Harris or Warren and Igwebuike is our kick returner and 3rd team back so I just don't know how much if any playing time he would get. Heaven forbid that there is an injury then maybe you give him a call and see what he has left.

That is the only reason it would be worth taking a look at him, just to be ready if they need an injury replacement. I don't see how a third back who can't contribute on special teams helps them. I know he used to line up at receiver, but I doubt he still has the speed to step into Allen Robinson's role.

A tryout is fine. But he has to earn the spot. No sympathy or for old times' sake hires. The only for old times' sake thing that should go into play is a foot in the door. He gets a chance to compete in camp. But we all know that being a RB is a very hard life in the NFL. His best years are undoubtedly behind him. No way could he be our #1 or 2. I do think that he would play as hard as he can and he has experience. That might be enough to earn a spot as a 3 or 4.....but even then, he is probably going to be prone to injuries and our O line (as it is currently anyways) could never support his run style of delaying to see the hole and then going. Our O line has not been very good at making those holes.

My friend....., and others listen clearly....because of roster size, and how many men You can only dress for a game.....You can't have a RB that is not 1, or 2...that won't, or can't play special teams. Its really that simple. So unless You clearly think He would be one , or 2 ...it's a waste of thought.

Not sure about that, he's been boxing for the last few years. I saw him absolutely destroy Adrian Peterson and another guy in a fight. Hasn't played football in a few years so should still have some tread left. He looked really strong and fast in the ring. Plus he always was a freak athlete. I would just question whether he still has any speed left.

Bell was not good at all for Jets and Ravens. I don't see him being NFL caliber after being out of the league for 2+ years.

I thought AP would crush him, but Lev knocked him out. I've watched a few of his fights, he is a heavy puncher and moves well. Tough cat.

Good article where Foster talks about how the O-line had to adjust for Le'Veon -

"In the beginning, it was frustrating," Foster said. "Everybody has a time clock to their job. The quarterback getting the ball out, the wide receiver and his routes, the linebacker when he knows he can blitz, and so do offensive linemen when they block. You have one and a half to two seconds to hit your gap and go. So, in the earlier stages of Lev [Bell] running, we were like, 'What in the h**l he got going on, just hit the gap and go.'”

He added that despite the frustration in adapting their style as an offensive line to suit Bell, they knew it was required because they'd seen how well his style worked in practice. Foster continued that Mike Munchak, the team's offensive line coach, was instrumental in helping the unit figure out the right tactics to support Bell's running.

"Munch [Munchak] had to really reel us back in and said we’re going to have to adjust," explained Foster. "We’re going to have to be patient in our blocking. Our double teams are going to have to be really locked in. First level first, I don’t care what the linebacker is doing unless they shot your gap and knocked you off your block, don’t leave."

Bell would be fine as an emergency type back (even then at his age I doubt he'd be amazing), but we really can't dress him as the 3rd RB unless he is playing ST's like you said. If that were the case, we'd have to carry an extra player at a different position to cover for this spot. He'd be the right type of back for us, he's just too late. He should've stayed when he had the chance. He was the league's best back, took some bad advice, and it cost him his career. Sad story really, and the beginning of this whole "RB's don't get paid" trend in the NFL.

Watching the line block for him, it almost looked like a moving pocket slowly moving forward with Bell in the middle until he saw an opening. Once he saw that opening, he was instantly out of the scrum and into the second level. He wasn’t a fast RB by any means, but his jump cut was amazingly quick.

If You can call it a fight. LoL. I know this is bragging, but I think I could take both of them, and I'm closer to 60 than 50, and I haven't been in the ring since 1998.

I see two likely reasons for this comment from Bell.

#1 he feels some guilt for dissing coach tomlin and he’s basically giving Tomlin a compliment knowing full well there’s no place on our roster for him.

#2 $$$. He wants to capitalize on the steeler nation. His only chance to make any $ as a retired player would be to patch up his relationship with the steelers.

If he’s actually serious about playing again its ego driven and he knows Tomlin doesn’t expect anything out of his players outside of game day. Players coach translates to zero accountability and free for all.

Well, I guess since Bell can't do football, he is going to become a nude Camgirl model. :)
