Any competent coach can win with this team.. what is lacking is situational awareness. Tomlin has none of that.

This sums him up perfectly! Tomlin gets lost in the moment and instead of the game slowing down for him, as it does for great coaches and players, it speeds up and he panics. Which is why he makes such terrible decisions with time-outs, challenges, play calls, etc.

I would give Munchak a shot if Mikey was let go.

How do or did the Steelers win if Tomlin gets lost in the moments?

What player factor impacted the outcome of this season more than any other factor?

If this team keeps pulling this garbage I'm becoming a Colts or Dolphins fan. I want to be used to mediocrity.

He won’t be fired, currently under contract through 2020.... so don’t be surprised if he gets an extension in the off season.

Are there any out there that are similar to Sean McVay for the Rams? I think he is a great young coach.

Anyone that truly thinks there is any chance in hell of Tomlin being let go is deluded. He's allowed the team to become an undisciplined mess and has many other shortcomings but he's here to stay for now.
Love him or hate him him he's our coach for the foreseeable future.
It would be nice if Rooney reamed him a new one for pissing away this season though. It's almost criminal that we ended up in the situation we were in last night and that we weren't #1 or 2 seed in the playoffs.

Butler, Danny Smith and some others need to go with a quickness. If they aren't then we can easily conclude that they're just phoning it in and not concerned with greatness anymore.

Cowboys were 3-5 and colts 1-5 and both made the playoffs while we missed it at 7-2-1.

    Can’t believe this crap lol

Why is everyone convinced the team is "undisciplined"?

If you look at the penalty stats for this year they really don't say that at all.

For example the Steelers this year were 2nd best in the league (next to the Titans) in net penalty count. Their opponents were flagged 25 more times than the Steelers. The Steelers were 6th best in the league in terms of net penalty yards. Neither of those stats point to an "undisciplined" team. They were in the middle of the league in terms of gross number of penalties called, but that may point more to having their games called tighter given the number of penalties called on their opponents.

Not that I think any of that matters anyway. The most penalized team in the league, both in terms of gross and net, was the Chiefs, the #1 seed in the AFC.

The difference between Cowher and Tomlin - the QB. Cowher had guys like O'Donnell, Maddox, Stewart, etc. As soon as he got a good QB - he won a SB within 2 years. Tomlin has coached his entire career with a HOF QB in his prime and he's done what- gotten worse over the time period.

Not going to lie, almost every Redskins fan is in tears that the team let him go. Especially since he has surpassed Gruden, who he coordinated under.

I don't usually concern myself with those arguments. The league was a different place when Cowher coached. It takes more than a HOF/franchise QB to win games. Several of the QB's under Cowher had good seasons and performed well. The Steelers had a run game and good defenses to fall back onto.

The Steelers didn't have the necessary players to field a good run game or great defense this year for different reasons. When a team relies so heavily on the franchise QB to perform well he can't turn the ball over.

What's the point of having a HOF QB when he doesn't always perform like one? Especially when he starts slow and he's careless with the football. Ben didn't always play well enough this season or in the post season. So the losses fall on Ben as much as they fall on Tomlin. HCes are usually only as good as their players perform in games.

    just thinking...

2019 = underperforming again and ben retires
2020 = tomlin gets full force lol 5-11 steelers team
2021 = tomlin panics and is forced to retire
2022 = new coach new draft picks
2023 = team buys into the new coaches philosophy and ends up missing the playoffs at 8-8
2024 = new SB window starts
    2025-28 = SB window

    so 6 more years? haha

I think we are all going to realize how good Ben is after he is gone. Yes, he makes mistakes, but the good far outweighs the bad. He is still a competitor, and a winner. I wouldn't trade him for anyone. He has given us all he has in the tank, and he is not the reason for the current state of affairs.

The issues with Ben this season isnt about his entire career or what he's meant to the team.

He was a huge part of the problem this season. He turned the ball over 18 times.

And don't forget when Ben missed those FG kicks or when he let one of the worst teams the Oakland Raiders make a fourth quarter come back and win. But don't ever blame the coaching staff because players play and coaches coach. Coaching is always blameless. Ask the Pittsburgh Penguins.

You aren’t making any sense. One has nothing to do with the other. Point is, Ben didn’t help. Lots of players didn’t help.
