What chances do you think they would've had against the juggernaut Niners? Keep in mind they were two O'Donnell picks away from upsetting another juggernaut one year later.

Not much of a chance tbh. That niners team for that one year was one of the best ever.

Well, talking with Steeler fans over the years, I've learned that the Steelers are undefeated in games they don't play.

They may choke away a game like to SD in '94, Den '97, NE in '01, Tebow in '11 or Jax last yr, but if they had won THOSE games, they'd have been a unbeatable juggernaut the rest of the way. So OBViOUSLY, they'd have beat the Niners. Nostalgia through B&G lenses is a beautiful thing.

I think the 49ers would have rolled the Steelers. We couldn't contain their offense for an entire game and we couldn't keep up with their offense. I remember walking out of TRS that day and it was the quietest I ever heard 50,000 people but I didn't take it as hard as others because I thought the 49ers were the best team in football that year.

How can you really have an educated opinion on this? It was 4 years before you were born. Going back and reading stories on the internet doesn’t give you close to the full picture of things as compared to watching things happen in real time.

Does that include all written history, or just football?

94 Steelers would have made a game of it. They would not have gotten rolled up on like the Chargers did. No way I can see that the Steelers winning that game though. That 94 49ers team is one of the best in NFL history. IMO that 94 49ers team was far better than the 95 Cowboys.

I didn't see many 49er games that season so, I don't know how good they were. I only know what I saw in that SB and, I believe the 9ers still would have won. The score would have been closer though.

Just like now .... it All comes down to Ben's play. It was the same with o'donnell back then. But, with a way better defense!

Knowing they would have smoked us was the only thing that kept me sane for months after that loss.

All. I mean if I’m having a discussion with a WW2 Vet I’m not going to dispute his first hand account of the events with my knowledge that came from some reports I read on the internet.
If Analyst wants to have a debate with one of his other 20 year old college buddies about something that’s fine, but he sure likes to dispute things that happened before he was born with people who lived through those events. Fail IMO

The Niners that year were a very good team. They scored over 500 pts. And their D was pretty good.
The would have been favored over Pit by a wide margin. They beat SD by 20+ pts, the Steelers would probably have given a closer margin, but they easily could have been blown out.

There are some rare seasons where there is a team of destiny. That was one of them. We could have given them a game, but surely would have lost.

It`s a shame we have not made it deep in the playoffs for a while. I have seen no team of destiny for a long time.

They would have done better than the Chargers did. But, I don't think they win that one.

    Steve Young > Neil O'Donnell
    Jerry Rice> Yancey Thigpen
    Ricky Watters>Foster and Morris

Deion Sanders was also on the 49ers that year. Their defense was good.
The Blitzburgh 94 defense was very good though. Lloyd, Kevin Greene, Woodson, Buckner, Joel Steed, they were a nasty bunch.

But still we lose that Super Bowl if we make it.

Ten years earlier, a powerhouse 49ers team won the SB convincingly. They only lost one game the entire season, to the Malone-led 9-7 Steelers.

The 1994 Niners would be a big favorite, but the Steelers would have a chance.

There is a very big difference between upsetting a team in a regular-season game and doing it in the Super Bowl.

The Steelers had the defense to slow the 49ers down that year, but they didn't have the offensive firepower to match them.

People who lived something often rely too much on memory rather than watching things again or reading the analysis of others. They also tend to be more biased.

All things being equal, I'll take the opinion of the person who was there, but to say you can't learn about things through research and have an opinion is inaccurate. It is just as bad as Analyst's claim that the opinions of players are always better than those of non-players. It simply isn't true.
