No facts to back it up but Davis getting hurt was a incentive to get a FS but IMO I don’t think they invest a 1st round pick to go get one. They may have even thought the replacement was in house with Edmunds or Dangerfield. Remember they always said their safeties were interchangeable. I think Ben getting hurt made them go all in on Fitzpatrick because they knew the D would have to carry the team. I also believe that the guy @AskQuestionsLater@AskQuestionsLater spoke about ( don’t recall his name) was a major factor in selling to MT and KC that Fitz would be a huge addition. All speculation of course....

Name was Brandon Hunt. He is the Steelers Director of Pro Football Scouting. I believe he was in attendance at Alabama's Pro Day in 2018 when the Steelers wanted RaShaan Evans. Clearly me and you both knew how that worked out.

That said, Minkah is here but due to a different set of circumstances. Could not have it any other way. Glad to have him on the team and glad that, finally, Pittsburgh has embraced the Single High Free Safety.

    Darkness,
Minkah's skill set was no secret. Pro scouts have been drooling over him ever since he anchored Bama's Championship winning secondary his freshman season.
With all due respect to the scout you speak of, his track record for scouting dbacks in recent years has been a lil shaky.

Lol...listen lighty....nah I know his skill set was no secret,I watch a lot of Bama . I was just basing my thoughts on the fact @AskQuestionsLater@AskQuestionsLater said that the scout was instrumental in convincing MT/KC that he was worth such a high pick. The way they have treated the Safety position in recent years I’m not convinced they make the deal on their own.
As far as scouting the DBs I don’t really know how long he’s been a part of it. What should also be considered with such a poor track record of drafting such DBs is Colbert just admitted in the beginning of the season that their criteria for drafting DBs prior was basically flawed. They didn’t put a emphasis on ball skills and playmakers. They scouted and drafted for tackling and physicality. With the way the league has been changing in recent years they’ve finally realized they have to change with the times. Minkah is the first step ,although you can probably say the drafting of Justin Layne was also a pick along those lines. OK enough positivity ......it’s back to the darkness for me;)

Just to be clear, one poster called you darkness, another poster called you a lousy fan. These aren't necessarily my opinions, but where there's smoke.....
