now ... we have beachum and adams probably out for some games , our playoffs hope barely gone , would be intelligent sign someone from other ps (reid fragel for ex ) to backup whimper and maybe play some snap just to see if we can avoid to have another draft need . beachum is good but will not hurt find another young athletic left tackle in these last weeks of the season . adams on the left is unwatchable

Fragel is still on the Browns active roster I believe. I doubt we sign anyone else. I don't know, maybe they will, but I kind of doubt it.

Why would we ever want to try a LT that someone other than our Coaching Staff/FO had a hand in drafting?? They obviously wouldn't be up to our "high standards". :lolol:

is Beachum done for a while?

Adams just isnt very good. i would rather see Whimper in there if Beachum cant go.

the oline has actually started to gel.

im also worried about Velasco. looked like he was carted to the locker room.

I'm starting to wonder if Beachum can be a capable starting NFL left tackle that we can plug in and play for the next several years. A month ago I would have said he's just a temporary plug-in and multi-position backup, but he is starting to look like he can be a legit NFL left tackle. I don't see him being a pro bowler, but we don't necessarily need a guy who's that good (or that expensive). I am starting to develop optimism for Beachum being a long-term LT. He has impressed the crap out of me against some solid competition in recent weeks.

The Steelers next game is like 10 days away the guys that got injured have time to get healthy, none of those injuries looked serious.

That is what I'm thinking too, and that leads me to think what do we do about our two second round picks who aren't living up to expectations in Gilbert and Adams. I guess we can let them hang out until one of their contracts is up, but I would rather cut ties now and try to upgrade.

He can be and should be given that opportunity. But don't take my word for it, ask Terrell "gummy teeth" Thuggs. You didn't hear his name called last night, did ya?

Him and Flacco are the biggest reasons I hate losing to those guys.

I'd still like to get some nasty on our OL, but if beachum is our LT for the forseeable future it would loosen our collar quite a bit on draft day.

What position is Embernate again? He might be guard, he's all sorts of nasty.

Yeah, I think you're right, he's a guard. Wasn't able to catch any of our preseason games so haven't seen him play. Digging up some old footage of him may be on my list of things to do!

If Beachum can hold down the LT spot, then where do we go in the first round? CB? S? or best player available?

No thanks, we've already overspent our quota on the defense.
Let's go TE, WR, or best offensive player available.

long needs his shot to move up if needed. we have our own PS, and longs been here for two years of this offense. he did a nice job in preseason when they played him.

I'll say "best player available" Your value might be better on defense. But I wouldn't mind a good TE or a big fast WR.

Yeah but, based on our recent track record, they'd likely be more productive on the offense sooner. :smiley1:

I'd be okay with Beachum as the LT of the future if he keeps playing the way he has, and continues improving. You know the OLine has only given up one sack to CLE, DET, and BAL the past three weeks, and all of these teams are good defenses (and good pass rushing defenses). I think the OLine is finally starting to "get it". I know many of you are down on Adams an Gilbert, but both of those guys have been downright impressive the past few weeks. Gilbert has played exceptionally well. Adams mostly sees running plays as the 3rd Tackle, but he has obliterated people while he's been in.

Honestly, this is the OLine many people expected at the beginning of the year, its just taken half a season for them all to be firing on all cylinders at the same time. I wouldn't give up on either Adams or Gilbert. It is just way too soon in Adams' career to give up, and Gilbert is finally starting to get it I think. Really we have a decent set of (3) young tackles with nice upside if they keep improving like they are. Adding Embernate into the mix at Guard to push Foster, and keep Velasco at C. Realistically we could have a fantastic OLine 2 years from now, and that's even with Pouncey walking.
