Who cares how it went down ,a change was needed,a change was made. Butler deserves his chance but if he is just a carbon copy he can go too. We need a different approach. He should be on a short leash. Tomlin better be on board with Butler or speak up. I would like to think that he will have more input with Butler than he may have had with Lebeau.

I have this theory that says the older you get the younger older people get. LOL.

I've been mulling this over and I wonder if the narrative we're building up is built on a faulty premise.

We're a bit jaded from the Bruce Arians fiasco. Many on this board, among talk radio, and other sites have questioned if it was time for LeBeau to move on. So we're all assuming he was asked to leave, or some other scenario not of his choosing.

But what if he has been genuine?

What is he really saying? Just taking a different angle at this: The rigors and stresses of being a DC has become a bit too much for him. Maybe he decided on his own that he can no longer perform at his best and rather than do something at less than his best, he'd rather step aside. But he's NOT retiring. Perhaps the message here is "I don't plan to sit on my ass. Don't ship me off to the old folks home. I'm not done working. I'm just going to pursue something different."

I honestly hope this is the case.

Yes, I know I'm one of those who called for his reign to end. In fact, I believe I may have been one of the first going back a few seasons. That never once meant I didn't respect the man nor appreciate his past contributions. Wherever he goes, I wish him happiness and success.

    Truth.

It's funny. The older you get, the more you realize that deep down, you're the same person you were at 20-25. Oh, you have more life experience. Hopefully more wisdom. You might not be as rash or impulsive. But you're essentially the same... other than the decrease in energy, aches and pains, loss of hair or hair color, etc. :lolol:

When you're young, you think "old" is 10 years older than you. 20 years or more older? They're ancient. They don't have the same wants, urges, feelings, sense of fun. they're serious.

    PFFT!!!! :lolol:

Then you turn 30, suddenly, 40 doesn't seem so old, but those 50 year olds...

At 40, 50 isn't so old. (And you still think you can hang with 20 year olds. Oh, you can, you just realize they don't want to hang with you! ;))

    And so on...

Maybe we will move to a 4-3 . Some say there is not a big difference in a 3-4 and a 4-3 but the difference is huge . The 3-4 is better suited for run Defense and uses a lot of Zone behind it . It's bread and butter is the zone blitz with confusion being it's strength.

The 4-3 is better suited to stop Spread and Pro type Offences. The main stay of a 4 -3 is a man or man/zone concept . Of course you can run Cover 2 or Cover 3 , but is mainly a man/zone concept .

As a result the type of DB'S needed are totally different. In a 3-4 both Safeties and both Starting CB'S are required to be better in space and be able to tackle well.

In a 4-3 the extra DL gives the CB'S more freedom to play tight on the WR usually the FS will always align to the Strength of the formation he is then able to actually play FS and try and hawk deeper routes.

Yeah that's true. My papaw used to talk about things that happened "20yrs ago" and I would think "man that's a long time and you are old" and now I remember things that happened 20yrs ago like they were yesterday. Neil O'Donnell comes to mind. It's also true about your body. I've just had to start physical therapy because of all the damage I've done to my shoulder at UPS over the last almost 14yrs. I go in there and absolutely smoke all those young kids and not too long ago one of them walked up to me and said "I wish I could go that fast" and I said "yeah you will until you wake up the next morning and take 10 minutes to stand up straight". LOL. I told my wife the other day that my body has started screaming at me that I'm not 19 anymore. I just turned 33 last Tuesday and I can absolutely tell that I'm not as young as I used to be. It's also funny that you talk about how older people have the same desires because I've always said that 50 should be the cut off for the physical act of love, if you know what I mean. There's just nothing appealing about a 50yr old naked person. Ever. LOL. My wife and her uncle tell me that I'm crazy. That might be but you can still be crazy and right at the same time. HA. What's really amazing is that DL doesn't seem to have hardly aged at all. I hope if I make it to his age I will still be just as vibrant. It's even more incredible when you think that he was actually a pro football player when they REALLY killed each other.

hey, hey, hey!!!! if you want to cut out your "activity" at 50 you go right ahead, when you hit that 50 mark I guarantee you will feel different. I'm halfway to 60 and still enjoy that part of life. when I quit enjoying that they might as well bury me. you wait, if you think you feel bad at 33. 40 was my big turning point. it started going down hill fast as far as aches and pains, but at 55 I'd love to be back with those at 40. LOL:cool:

Well I'm glad to hear that you're still kickin'. LOL. I mean they invented a whole DRUG for people that get older so I guess that feeling never does go away but when all my skin starts hanging off my body I just think I'm gonna wanna spare my wife the horror. LOL.

Football is his life, without it he wont live long, look at how long Woody Hayes, Joe Paterno, Tom Landry, Bill Walsh and several others lasted after football, not long, some coaches can retire and find a new life, some who spent most of their life in it just cant move on from it ..........

No, You look. I don't think he was out maneuvered but I do believe he was in the process of rebuilding a D that required replacing pro bowl players at every position. Could careless if he's 100 as long as the job gets done and I think he was in the process of doing so.

It's done now so time to move on.

That's just it, the job he's done the last few seasons has been insufficient. Talent has something to do with it but I think it's mostly that OCs have his scheme figured out. Maybe he is the scapegoat for a lack of talent but if that's the case, did he also get too much of the credit when he had a defense full of Pro-Bowl caliber players?

I think the bottom line is this. The young players were not integrated into the lineup fast enough, they didn't develop and take the next step as quickly as you have to in today's NFL, the team gave up too many big plays and his blitz packages were no longer effective. He was not the DL of old and the Steelers asked him to leave.

But we do agree on one thing. It's done and it's time to move on.

It just seems like the Steelers (offense and defense) don't game plan against anyone. The rats had 6 'new' DB's and we didn't change our offensive approach even after losing our MVP.

On defense, the rats overloaded a side (2-3 times) on big 3rd down plays where the Steelers rush 3 and put the rest in coverage.

The Steelers seem over-confident or too proud to change the way they play...its almost like "we do things our way and it will work"...I don't argue that it wont work, but if it makes it easier wouldn't you want to game plan and expose your opponents weaknesses?
