Normally I would say July based on past experience but Herbig happened quickly

But his agent screwed around with his first contract and the Steelers held firm so who knows

    Yep.

    It will get done.

But Porter has a father who's been through this before. He knows that you get more money by waiting as long as possible.

Same reason Watt always pushes right to the deadline.

Are you listening to any of the reports about how PORTER is doing the TJ Watt Hold-In thing and not participating in practice? He has a brand-new defense to learn, and right now he is just standing on the sideline not participating.

    The Depth Chart?

I have not heard about Herbig starting over Watt or Highsmith. Have you heard different; that now Watt or Highsmith has been benched for Herbig???

Any reports that PORTER is participating in individual or team drills yet?

I thought you were saying Porter was going to play out his final year of his current contract. Right now Porter is refusing to practice until he gets a new contract.

The Steelers have to do something, but only if they want him to Practice and Play this year. :)

I think the only consideration in that regard is that if they wait another season to sign Porter, the price is going to go up considerably. It's just a reality in the NFL. The salary cap keeps going up and the top players at every position continue to get contracts that raise the price of signing similar players going forward.

The best scenario would be for the Steelers and Porter to come to an agreement that works long term for the team and for the player. The Steelers will sign a young, top cornerback for the foreseeable future at a more reasonable rate, and Porter gets his big contract and signing bonus and all the security that brings to him and his family.

I get what you're saying, but financially it makes more sense long-term to sign him sooner rather than later. They may have to restructure some contracts of other players that they plan on keeping here long-term, but I think that it will ultimately be more beneficial to do so.
