Last year's Titans game, and what does it mean this year?

We can finally start discussing real gameplans!

I just watched highlights of the Titans game last year, which we lost 26-23. Here's some of the things I remember and had forgotten about until watching...

*Injuries - Pouncey and Redman went down in this game. Mendenhall was still hurt. I'm not sure if Dwyer was but Baron Batch got the bulk of the carries for the game.

*Hassleback played well - Haslleback is exactly the kind of QB that kills us. A guy that can read a defense and can fire it out quickly. His receivers dropped a ton of ball in this game too. Luckily we'll be playing Locker this time around.

*Britt hurt us - Kenny Britt is always hurt, but can be a force when healthy. He dropped some balls but he gave Ike trouble all game. Nothing changed here except that Ike got a year older. Let's hope he's up for the challenge.

*Bad Coaching - I was watching the highlights and thinking how the heck did we lose this game? We were even moving the ball well with a tie game and less than a minute on the clock. Then I remembered... Tomlin opted to try a 54 yard field goal, which was short... And gave the Titans the ball at nearly midfield. Bironas hit the game winner as time expired.

It's a new year with new faces. It's a home opener for us as well.
If we don't win this game it could be a bad omen for this year. I think it's very important to win this game to set a tone going forward.
To answer the question, last year's game doesn't mean squat concerning this game IMO..

When you say you watched the highlights of the game don't you actually mean you watched that one long play for a td to Mike Wallace??? LOL. I was in the stands screaming "Way to ice your own kicker Tomlin!!!" Also Hasslebeck victimized Lewis all night long. Also don't forget that we were actually closer to Suisham's range and then they called a run play UP THE MIDDLE with Batch which put us 2 yards FARTHER out of Suisham's range. Dang you Steel now you've got me reliving the horror! I was furious leaving that stadium that night and it's all coming back to me now! LOL.

Agree here, we need to win @ home a confidence builder then take to the road week 2 in PB Stadium kick our first challenger's a$$ in our division then go prepare for the next!

Not concerned nor want to revisit last years stats-win/losses

While its not really a MUST WIN game, with the way the pre season unfolded I would sure hate to lose this game. I agree, come out and set a tone for the season.

I consider us a better team. We are home. Its the opener. No excuse on a loss.

We lost what 4-5 games last year on the last play or basically the last play with a FG?

Locker will have a hard time doing what Hassel did last year. A home opener....we will be ready.

When it comes to the year overall, I think we are better than most give us credit for. If we can get the special teams fixed...we will be very good this year I think.

The key to this game will be our oline. The titans look like they can rush the passer with 4 down linemen. I hope our guys are up for the challenge.

I consider all games must win because we always seem to loose to some team that stinks all year but the day they play the Steelers. Remember the Raiders and our now second string QB that burned us!!

yeah, but none of those games should have ever been that close. this team did not live up to expectations last season and they are coming off an 0-4 preseason.

i honestly have no idea what this team is capable of this year. last year i thought they were a legit super bowl team with the best wr group in the league. well we all saw how that played out. they missed the playoffs and they didnt have a wr that even sniffed a 1,000 yards.

It is a must win game for me because these are the types of teams we need to beat if we want to be a playoff team. We aren't consistently going to beat the good teams, so we need to make sure we beat the bad teams, starting with the Titans. Locker is one of the worst QB's in the league, so we should beat them, although I'm nervous that we're not going to

This game is really important for many reasons: Are we really as bad as we looked in preseason, that begs to be answered, can Haley field a competent offense with some new wrinkles that can play solid for 4 quarters and score points, or will it look like it did last year? Can this defense stop the run with a new regenerated Chris Johnson (in his own words) out to prove he can rack up 2000 yards this year? Will we have a dominate pass rush from the front 7, or will it be the same O same O again, or worse? Can the secondary improve this year or leak at times like it did last year? Will special teams be improved over last year, or not? For sure we have to find an identity in this game, for both the coaches and the players, the time for tweaking is over, it's now or never for this team sunday to prove they are still a force in the AFC.....

I view this as a must win, since it is opening weekend at home and you want to get rid of the bad taste from last year. Plus you just had a winless preseason. Nothing will shut up the fanbase more than coming out and winning a game you should be favored in by 10+ points. The key is no special team blunders and keep Johnson from hitting the home run. We do that we should be able to win by 10+ as long as we don't turn it over.

Good point. Jurrell Casey is a good young tackle. Pouncey looked like his head was up his ass for most of the preseason... He better be ready to play.

Don't let the odds makers fool you into a false sense of bravado, point spreads have become meaningless for the steelers in the past, this game is no different: Jake Locker by far is not the best QB we will face this year, but he is a big physical threat to take off on a run at anytime and run the ball down our throats behind a solid Oline, if we under estimate him: The Keys to this game is stopping him and CJ, if we don't, then all the point spreads in vegas wont win this game for us....

I was basing that point spread on my own personal opinion of where these two franchises are. No idea what Vegas is giving. We should be one of the top 4 teams in the AFC, while Tennessee is very young and in rebuilding mode. I know that is why they play the game and hopefully this is not a repeat of last year when we lose games to inferior teams. That seems to be a problem the last couple of years.

True, but it will be 7 straight home openers we win. The team is 6-0 for home openers under Tomlin.

we also won 4 or 5 games with a last minute or basically the last play FG... all that tells me is we are a team that scores and gives up very few points.. it tells me we dont blow people out and we dotn get blown out.. we have a ton of 16-13 type games where 3 points can be 20% of the total points we score .. just tells me we have no ability to score points and that we score far too many FGs and far too little TDs in the red zone..

Didn't the Steelers defense kind of stunk in that game, If I'm not mistaken. Giving up a lot of 3rd downs?

This is definitely a must win game, there is NO doubt about it. If we lose this game it will be another disappointing season going 7-9 or 8-8, bank on it.

I remember Ike getting beaten often by Britt, and I remember Cook turning Harrison inside out numerous times.

Isn't Greg Williams their d coordinator too? He'll bring pressure all day long. There might even be a bounty on Ben. LOL.
