Why doesn't Tomlin have a running game? Because Ben likes to throw the rock & the Steelers oblige. Caught up with them imo. Tomlin got the Cowher treatment this year, your taking Najee in the 1st.

Pointing out he did a good job and didn’t finish below .500 without Ben isn’t bragging. It’s pointing out the obvious.

So, now Tomlin needs to have 10 non losing seasons without Ben. Ever moving goal posts.

Belichick first season without Brady was below .500. But some fans just can’t admit Tomlin did a good job in 2019.

Matt Cassel says hello. Brady went out for the year in the first game. They went 11-5.

Mike Tomlin has had sustained success since 2007 in terms of winning seasons. For that matter, the Steelers have never had a losing decade since the AFL/NFL Merger back in 1970. They remain the only NFL Franchise to date not to post a losing decade.

Regarding 8-8 in 2019, check out how Bill Belichick looked with a more accomplished QB in Cam Newton vs. Mason Rudolph and Delvin Hodges for Tomlin in 2019; 7-9 for Belichick vs. 8-8 for Tomlin. Again, keep in mind that Cam Newton was an NFL MVP; a far cry from what either Hodges or Rudolph hope to be.

They also missed the playoffs in 2008 if I recall. Realistically speaking, it will be interesting to see how well Mac Jones develops under Bill. If Mac Jones is not the answer and should Brady somehow, someway, win another Super Bowl Title, that effectively ends the debate between who was more important to the Patriot Dynasty. For that matter, should Bill Belichick have any more losing seasons after this one, all the more damning.

Check out that 8-8 TOMLIN no Ben seasons schedule. Probably the easiest schedule I’ve seen an NFL team ever end up with and they had several Defensive miracle TDs to get to 8-8. To be fair I think it was probably one of Tomlins best coaching jobs to keep that team together and somewhat competitive. He also usually loses a few games a year to terrible teams that he didn’t do that season. Don’t think it would ever happen again though based on my reasoning above.

The best and only win they had that season against a team over 500 was the Rams who went 9-7. Seriously look up that schedule and the teams records we beat it’s honestly amazingly horrible.

    Bengals 2 X 2-14
    Chargers 5-11
    Dolphins 5-11
    Cardinals. 5-10-1
    Browns. 6-10
    Colts 7-9

The Pats lost more than Brady last season. Didn't they have the most Covid opt outs?

They were favored to win 8 games and people think it was a HOF coaching job to win 8 games. If Colbert doesn't pull the Minkah rabbit out of his hat, that's a 4-win team.

Speaking of Mac Jones, I watched a little of him the other night -- looked in command and calm, and like Brady, just insanely accurate. Puts the ball exactly where it needs to be. Perfect guy to try to run that offense again.

They did but somehow I don’t think Tomlin would be afforded the same leniency around here.

They had a running game until LeVeon left, it had nothing to do with what Ben wanted.

If you factor in that they had the worst QB situation in the league, then it was a good coaching job .

That was factored into the being favored. They didn't handicap games as if Ben was healthy.

It will always be Alex. Everyone else is a cheap imitation.

But I heard Aaron was pretty good.

I'm returning to the discussion on the defense getting takeaways.

For the 2020 season, Miami led with 29, and the Steelers were second with 27.
In 2000, 5 teams had 40+ takeaways, led by the Ravens with 49.

When Tomlin's teams don't reach milestones achieved in the past, it is not always "bad coaching".
Sometimes, the rules have changed enough that the game today is not the same as 10 or 20 years ago.

Keep coming to this forum 5 years after Ben retires. Let’s see how well the “great mike Tomlin” does. I would bet my 401k that Tomlin will never win a super bowl as head coach without Ben Roethlisberger. Even if he coaches another 40 years. I bet none of you Tomlin lovers would be willing to put down $10 in Vegas.
