2022 Steeler Training Camp report: First off, a disclaimer,: I usually wait till The Steelers don the pads to go up to see them in Camp. As the great Chuck Noll used to say, shells and no pads is just football in shorts and it changes when pads go on and the hitting starts. But because my golfing buddy's son was signed as a free agent, and we were invited on the field, we had to go when scheduled. (Had a great dinner at Guy Fieris"s resturant in Latrobe afterwards also). So this is a very very early report. Inactives: The following players did not participate: Minkah (wrist), Dionte Johnson (contract) Larry Ogunjobi (foot) Pat Freiermuth (hammy) Kilabrew (not sure why), Levi Wallace (Illness), Alualu, (back), and Chase Claypool left during practice (shoulder) ( not beleived to be serious). Steeler Camp Shirt Pocket Notes!: *I have not seen this much speed on a Steeler Team in a while! Real speed on the outside with #89 Gunner,(Sorry, don't know how to spell Gunner's last name), Pickens #14, Austin #19, and Sims #82. Of course they will all be backing up Johnson and Claypool if they make the team. McNichols the running back has great speed also. *Anthony Miller the W.R. looked good also. * If it were up to me, I would start Pickens and Johnson (Backed up by Sims and Gunner and Miller) on the outside, and start Claypool in the slot. (Backed up by Austin). * Myles Jack is going to be a BEAST! *That said, Best off season pickup: I will go with O.L. Daniels over Jack. *The Steeler D played 90% Dime on Friday. Cam played all 3 downs and Wormley came out on passing downs. *Kendrick Green is a guard now. (Where he should be playing). * Mason Cole while no Pro Bowler is an upgrade at center. *While I said before Camp that Mitch would start, Mason was the best Q.B. on the field Friday. Don't count Mason out yet. Mitch played well, but Mason was better. Just one day tho? *My friends son held his own, and seems destined for the practice squad. *Key to the season?: Can Devin Bush return to form? * More Steeler Fans at Camp yesterday, than Jax Jags get for most games! *Zack Gentry will have a Monster year. * # 92 Loudermilk had a good practice with good pressure, and if he got a haircut he might be quicker! LOL! * New Camp wrinkle: Food Trucks for concessions instead of just drinks and hot dogs! * The O Line should be much improved. *You will see a lot more pre snap motion from the O. * Outstanding Defender yesterday: Terrell Edmunds! Finally? * Best Offensive player yesterday: W.R. Miles Boykin * I am excited to see what safety Damontae Kazee can bring this year. He was in the middle of everything yesterday and they were playing a base vanilla D. * Alex Highsmith looked quicker yesterday, than last year. *Should be an interesting year.
