Saw that article earlier. Makes me question Lake's judgment if that's the case. What took him so long?

“I don't like to do knee-jerk reactions, especially when I have young guys and they are trying to learn,” Lake said. “You have to give them the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from it and grow. If you shuffle the deck all the time, then it doesn't allow for that or breaks down the player's confidence.”

I agree with him there, and I also agree that it was time to make the change. While it was bordering on waiting too long to make the change, I think Lake did the right thing. I think actions like that go a long way in the locker room to building up respect for the coach.

You missed a "B" in the thread title. Should be, "Blake responsible for Boykin playing"

I agree. I didn't look at the article as a negative against Lake, looked at it as a positive. MT and DB should be under the microscope if anything. Assuming Boykin even amounts to anything, I'm not going to get giddy over an interception, has a lot to prove still.

I have to question Lake's judgement of talent if he thinks Blake is a capable starter.

Exactly, is he watching the same games we are? Boykin showed last week why he should have been in the game since week 1. I just hope he is the spark this D needs to play well.

Yeah the other day I was talking about how I really appreciated Blake for earning Boykin a shot.

it's one thing to stand by your coaching philosophy but it's another to let a proven asset sit idly by and watch your team get their asses handed to them too. if letting them learn while under fire than maybe grant should be on the field "learning". what was so special about blake being the guy to learn? why trade a pick for a guy you are only going to use for a few games and help your team then watch him walk away for the same old thing you replaced him for. maybe that philosophy should walk too. i'm a big fan of carnell as a person but i'm not thrilled in the least by his coaching of this group for the last couple of seasons. we watched this bite us with cortez and ike in his last couple of years. hoping and wishing them better while the team suffers is no philosophy. i'm not buying this. i still love ya carnell but man, not a time to be tooting your horn about how good this move was at this point.

I think a big shake up is in order after the season is over for the entire defensive backfield
and that includes Carnell Lake. Sorry Carnell you were a very good player for the Steelers
you are not picking, developing good football players back there.

I have no problem in giving guys a chance to develop ,I do have a problem with a Coach worried about a Football players feelings/confidence ....It is the players job to play up to the standard not the Coaches job to worry about his confidence. This is a sign of a problem with a lot of our group of DB'S they are not dumb they know the guys they are being asked to play are simply more talented and better than them all the hand holding in the world is not going to make our CB'S bigger, faster, or more Athletic....If we intend to have that we must draft it....

If we draft some skill then those guys won't have confidence problems...

What I dont understand, is why would lake keep starting blake when he leads the league by a wide margin in missed tackles?

Lake doesn't determine the roster. Thats why I thought it was good of him to push Boykin on Tomlin.

Somehow this turned into a roast fest of Lake (not you specifically Diamond, this thread in general)

Personally the starting lineup on defense should be butler and his position coaches decision, it's up to them to start the players they want on defense, because I dont think tomlin has the fortitude to judge talent, in fact I think judging talent is one of his biggest failures......
