While you have Ben, spend the cap space on the best offensive, defensive, and special teams players you can to win with Ben. After Ben retires, then go after another QB. Until then, backups should come experienced and cheap. I don't believe Landry's contract will be much above minimum. He is not desired elsewhere and the Steelers are basically his only shot at staying in the league.

Normally I would quickly agree with the part in red. I've become gun shy. Something always seems to come along and let's the air out of the tires.

Steelers appear ready to give Landry Jones good backup money

Pro Football Talk | Feb 16
    0 0

Steelers backup quarterback Landry Jones becomes a free agent next month, but the team appears ready to make sure he stays in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers view Jones as better than 80 percent of the other backups in the league, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. If that’s the case, it’s hard to see how the Steelers could let him get away, unless some other team were willing to offer Jones starter money.

Kirk Cousins standing pat before tag? The Redskins quarterback has no plans to sign any long-term deal until after the team places the franchise tag on him for the second straight season, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. If the Redskins tag Cousins, PFT says he will immediately sign the guaranteed $23.94 million tender, then start talking long-term deal.

This should get moved to the "other NFL talk" because Cousins isn't going anywhere, especially not Pittsburgh.

Couldn't agree more....... the skins, more than likely, will eventually sign him.. If they don't, there are a bunch of qb starved teams that will break the bank for him..... the 49ers, jets, browns, bills, bears, and quite possibly the rams and chiefs........
cousins in black and gold will only happen on madden...... go ahead and make the deal

It is amazing how badly the Skins bungled the Cousins situation. Around $48 million for two season with the tags for a good but not great QB. .
