Kiper likes us taking TE, Tyler Eifert?

I guess Kiper has had this marked down for awhile now. I forget if it was discussed much on the boards here too? What do you think of drafting a TE in the first? It doesn't have to be at 17, what if we trade back with Eifert in mind?

It might be nice. We would get the best player at his position in the draft. It is a nice hedge against the Heath Miller injury, and also a nice transition for when Heath's time is up here.

Steelers signed some FA TE's this offseason, but if someone of Eifert's caliber is available at the right spot, I don't see them hesitating.

Also, Haley is not a 4 wide receiver set kind of guy. He could certainly find a place for Eifert in the offense.

I saw Charles Davis saying that he would like to see us take a TE in the 1st also. I don't think that's gonna happen though. I would be shocked if the Steelers did that.

I don't see us drafting him a is being probable, but certainly possible...

I forget, did Steelers bring him in at all for a visit, or have any combine interviews with him?

That I couldn't tell you. I'm no draft guru at all.

To me Eifert is a stud and the perfect compliment for Haley's offense even when Miller comes back AND keeping Spaeth. He is my #1 choice for our #1 pick this year, and has been for a few weeks. If you look at BPA and not need regarding this team, at 17, I think he is the man.

There are several picks that I'd be happy with in the first, Eifert is one of them. Some look at it and say that we don't need to replace Heath, I look at it as not replacing Heath but adding another weapon to Heath, the two of them would create match up nightmares.

If you watch Eifert's highlight tapes you will see a couple of things, I think.

    1. They often lined him up in the slot. This left him with matchups of superior size, maybe not speed, but size. His route running allowed him to get enough separation that even a "non-throwing" QB could get him the ball. He is a matchup nightmare.

    2. Look at the Alabama tape, he was at times covered by Milliner, the #1 CB prospect in the draft this year.

I like the kid, but just don't see us carrying 5 tight ends. Heath, Paulson, Spaeth, Johnson, and a draft pick? I could see them drafting someone late and sliding them onto the practice squad, but there's no way they carry 5 tight ends. Of course if you consider D. Johnson a hb/fb then we might be carrying 6 running back types again which would be stupid imo.

I'm starting to warm up to it a little bit more, but still think its not a luxury we can afford. It all depends what Haley wants. Will he commit to running more 3 TE sets? If so, then pull the trigger now. Having Miller, Eifert (who can act as a slot receiver) and Spaeth all on the field, repeatedly, would cause alot of matchup problems.

We need a pass catcher, somewhere within the first 3 rounds of the draft. I am currently targeting Robert Woods in the 2nd or Ryan Swope in the 3rd. If we were SERIOUSLY looking at WR in the 1st round, then I would prefer to take Eifert. I think Eifert is the best TE or WR in this draft.

I would still like to go OLB/WR/S in the first 3 rounds.

That's the thing, if you treat Eifert as a general receiver pick, then the need for a WR in the first three rounds is not as great.

I was dead set against Eifert in the 1st, and I'm still not in favor of it. However, if - and only if - we truly shift to a tight end centric kind of passing game, he wouldn't be a horrible pick. He's clearly the best receiving TE, and overall most complete TE, in this year's draft. I'd still prefer to go with a WR before a TE.

For me, I think Eifert is going to be the clear BPA on the board when we pick...unless we move down.

I'm not sure he's BPA @ 17. Moving down and getting him would be best scenario for me. I had a mock with Vance Mcdonald in the 3rd. He's moving up boards and will be gone in the 2nd and some have him ahead of Ertz. I'd love to get a future star at TE,

the only way i would be happy with him is if we trade back. we have a history of taking best player available. no way is he top 20 in this draft. if both cooper and warmack are gone alone with all the lb prospects, then maybe. but one of those will be there. especially if the jets are in the market for a qb

There's zero chance of him being my BPA at #17. I haven't finished my big board yet, but I have at least 20-25 players ahead of him. He may be the best TE in this draft, but that doesn't make him an elite TE prospect. This is a TE class without a stud IMO.
