OK looked it up. If SS made all three attempts, maybe steelers win, or maybe tie and go into OT. Although placing the blame for that on Suisham may be a bit of a stretch since there is plenty of blame to go around on the O and D. it didn't come down to a last minute drive with a FG attempt to win or tie for OT. Pitt was down 21-3 going into 4th quarter so it was bombs away and Suisham wasn't part of the game at that point. I have a hard time saying that Suisham lost that game for the Steelers. at least not all by himself. It could just as easily be said that Ben lost that game by throwing 2 INTs, or that the OL lost the game by not creating any lanes for RBs or getting Ben sacked 5 times, or that Bell lost the game for only racking up 24 yards on 13 carries, or that the D lost it for allowing 3 rushing TDs.

I can't believe I'm defending a freakin kicker... what the heck is wrong with me???

No sure who Harteley is.. (Mary Hartley!... Mary Hartley!!)...

But apparentley, we have a vet kicker in camp.

That has to be a good thing...No matter who they are..

I had been starting to wonder if Sepulveda could learn to kick from a placeholder..(Green Font)...

Had a buncha personal stuff goin on the last couple weeks, so, I haven`t kept up with the news, like I usually do.

On a side note, I had a minor issue, with Steeler players, calling out the field in Canton, as the reason, Suisham went down...

Even if it`s true, (and it well could be)...

Do you REALLY wanna be calling out the field, when we play at Heinz, after all the local high school playoff games, and the Pitt Panthers playing there?!?

Would be different, if we always had first class grass.....

I gotta agree with one of the first replies, that said, "Just get it in the damn endzone!!!"...

    But, all of a sudden...

    Kickers are important...

Always thought of them as "dime a dozen" players.. But we seem to need a good one now, If Hartley ain`t it...

    GO STEELERS!!!:towel:

I am confident Hartley will do the job adequately enough however our special teams is looking like hot garbage right now.. Hopefully its just because its preseason and they are experimenting

I wasn't happy relying on Gary or any kicker... Never a gimme even with a gimme guy.
Swish has been far better than I ever expected and it's a blow to the team, but we'll see what we got and hopefully don't have to see it too much.

I agree with the majority of posts here. SS was reliable. I can't understand why there is no love for Skippy. He too was good. (I believe the paper towel dispenser was a set up to run him out of town. No one but Skippy knows what that dispenser said or did to provoke him.)

Steelers fans have been spoiled with regards to SS, Anderson, and Reed. Reliable kickers are rare and fans of teams with them often don't miss them until they are gone. Much like the great players we've enjoyed at the positions of center, quarterback, and linebacker.

Yeah, GA was as automatic as they come, always felt good when he lined up for a kick.

it was the raiders game a couple of years back was one that sticks out. maybe two in that game. chip shots. he has been a decent kicker for us though.

i'm talking more about those before half games when we do try a 50+ yarder because we are out of time before half. yes there are kickers that have a much better chance of making those. there is nothing wrong with trying out some guys in camp with longer range legs. they are out there. kickoffs are crucial with our st's. we have to put them at the 20 and make them go a long field with our defense too. these 30-40 yard returns put alot of pressure on the defense and the offense to score and keep a lead. it does help us outscore other teams which makes them one dimensional against our defense too.

Hartley will probably be serviceable, but did you see the leg of Jason Myers (who will likely be cut in favor or Josh Scobee?) The guy looks like a racehorse jockey and kicked the ball out of the endzone seemingly effortlessly and was barely wide on a 58 yard attempt. That would almost be worth the price of admission by itself (at least in terms of special teams yards not allowed). Any chance we'd go after someone like that if Jacksonville pulled the trigger on 9/1, or are we committed with what we have?

Most kickers out kick our kickers on our home turf anyway. I can only recall a few times when the opposing kicker was effected by the south end ...but our kickers always struggle...including suisham. I'm not saying he didn't improve dramatically from the beginning and had become reliable for us...but don't make him out as a top ten kicker

I would be for it, but I bet the coaching staff wants a veteran leg. After Suisham went down, they only brought in some veterans for tryouts. Henery isn't an old fogey like Feeley but he's in his 5th year.
