I’m not particularly happy with either of our qb acquisitions. However, at least one of them is an upgrade over what we’ve had for the majority of the past two seasons. As for the second the upside vs the cost makes it a reasonable gamble. Nothing ventured nothing gained

I already said in the past that Ben had been awful in the 2020 playoffs....You are not even capable of admitting that our defense was a true dumpster fire in the playoffs in the last 5 games when the defense was given 15 TD passes and only 1 interception and around 40 PPG

And it wasn't Ben who made the comment on the supposed 2nd matchup against the Pats in 2017....

First off, I couldn’t care less what you said. Secondly my comment had nothing to do with whatever you said.

I will be happy with Russ....if He still has gas in the tank , and the team buys into him.

The loss against the raiders in 2006 was 100% on Ben...He had 2 TD passes to a raiders player in that game!

I know Cowher wasn't perfect, 1998 and 1999 were ugly (like losing twice to the 3-13 Bengals in 1998 and losing to the Browns in 1999) but at the same time, he deserves a lot of credit for making 6 AFC title game with 3 different QB,twice each...Btw,yes Cowher has a losing record in the conference title game but it's the same thing for the great Andy Reid Cowher's worst loss was against the Chargers in 1994, it was awful but Tomlin has at least 2 losses as bad in the playoffs, including one against an 8-8 team that would never have happened with Cowher even if the Steelers roster would have been depleted by injuries...I mean Cowher has never lost in the playoffs against a 10-6 team or worse!

I agree with your points. In particular, I think your point about Ben is relevant for both Cowher and Tomlin.

Ben was a gunslinger and a sand lot QB, we won or lost based on whether he was “on”. Ben had an incredible career and a lot of great games, but Ben also contributed to some tough losses, including some of the playoff losses being referenced in this thread.

I’m not saying Tomlin is without blame, but some seem willing to discount his career, chalking all of our issues up to his fault alone, which I am not sure is fair.

For the upcoming year, and to this threads point, I am completely fine if his seat is getting a little warm, as it should be. We upgraded the QB room, we have some key players on offense and defense, and now Tomlin has to be sure we take a step forward.

The Rooney's let Cowher go over money, they will let Tomlin go if it's about money.

I’d agree if this was correct

The Rooney’s did not let Cowher go because of money

There were articles/reports released a year or two after Cowher resigned indicating he asked for a substantial raise that was not met by the Steelers. We will never really know since nothing the team nor Cowher could say that can be 100% believed. That being said, it makes sense since Cowher didn't actually retire in 2007, he resigned.....there is a difference there.

Kaye Cowher wasn't diagnosed with skin cancer until 2010.

What was the longest time between playoff wins for Cowher?
The difference in the last MT afc debacle and cowher losses in afc championship is it was not even close to being competitive to the point it was a clownshow. Tomlin was light years from belicheat at the time and that’s the point I went from a tomlin supporter to wanting him gone. Never have a shot to win with a d minded coach who can’t even slow down good offenses with the most expensive d in league

That 2006 team had one hell of a Super Bowl hangover, but Roethlisberger's health was a big part of the problem. Remember, he nearly got himself killed in a motorcycle accident. He still wasn't 100 percent, then had an emergency appendectomy right before the start of the season. He missed only one game, but did not play well when he returned. He threw 14 interceptions in his first seven starts, which was a big reason the Steelers went 1-6 in those games. By the time he and the team got their act together, it was too late.

It wasn't about the money for Cowher. He stepped down for himself and his family.

Pat Riley said it best in his one book, a pro coach should leave after a certain time because the message gets stall. Its not like a college coach who has new kids every year and 1/4 leaving. Cowher's time had come to an end and its probably time for MT to move on. If Vegas is right and rock out 7-8 wins, Khan was smart not to extend MT already.
