ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Colts plan to hire Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler as their defensive coordinator.

Don't like this at all. Worried about the stability of this team now.

That's a real surprise. I thought Butler was always getting lined up for Lebeau's job.

Note Schefter says it's a "plan" at this stage - I wonder how real the possiblity is?

That's what I thought. Butler would take over when DL was done. Guess Tomlin has his work cut out for him this off season.

Some of these media outlets are saying that Butler will fly to Indy on Tuesday to review and sign a contract. This one comes as a shock to me.

I guess jerry is the man now.Ex player and very smart.Perfect timing. Why do you guys panic so quickly. Now if we had lost DL and then lost keith then we would be in trouble.

Who would be our new linebacker's coach? Our linebacker's are at a point where we need to develop some solid replacements and now, what I think could be one of the keystone's to our defensive success, is heading out the door :(

They are reporting his contract is up. So the best they could do is give him a better offer, he's apparently free to go (unlike last year and the Cards)

I thought the signed him 2 years ago. I guess it could have been a 2 year deal. Well damn looks like lake is probably next in line.

I posted in another thread, how long was Butler going to stick around after Dick Lebeau decided to stay another season. After a while you just can't let opportunitities pass you by.

Now, Lebeau will be here one more year and we have no replacement for him next year.

    I see a 4-3 in our future.

Cant blame him for leaving. He is tired of standing behind DL waiting for his chance. Just keep an eye on how many INT's his D has the first year vs our's. Bet he gets more!

I'm ok with that, if that's the route the team ends up going. We don't have the talent on the DL to allow the 3-4 to work like we used to.

Maybe a new LB coach is a good thing. Everyone talked about lack of pass rush (including me). Maybe a new LB coach with fresh ideas could inspire LeBeau to new options.

Steelers Football is a philosophy on how to play to win. They will find someone who is a good fit, and all will be well. :good:

Tough break, Indy wants to be like the Cards.

If Butler leaves, it'll have to be John Mitchell, right? I don't know if Lake has proven himself as a coach just yet.

Well that sucks. I don't blame him though, how long can he wait for DL to retire.

Butler has already passed up Defensive Coordinator Jobs in the past, seems he was going to get the job once Lebeau retired, but Butler is 55 years old. If he has a shot he better take it and I don't blame him.

I really think your going to see Tom Bradley from Penn State come in and be the linebackers coach if Butler does leave. I'd think he wil do an excellent job at it.

Didn't Jerry O do a coaching internship with the Steelers in the last few seasons as well as Greg Lloyd? I believe Lloyd was a LB coach in Philly right now.
