Are the Steelers planning on Joseph taking over the SS spot?

They'd have to sign him first.

LOL... Finally, a player's salary I can financially identify with.

No, he barely played last year, spending most of the time on the practice squad.

I had high hopes when they signed him. He was a former first round pick.

He was a 1st round pick from my alma mater, that knee injury was hurting his draft status but Tomlin as well the Raiders were still looking at him,
the Raiders made him the 14th pick? Tomlin wasn't going that high.
Oakland brought in Marcus Gilchrist and that was the end for Karl.
He was good but not special during his starting time there.
He didn't really have a bad season in Cleveland after recovering from that foot injury.

He has ties to Tomlin and I just dunno if he was still banged up as he didn't play till I think in Oct..

And I thought minimum salary in the NFL was in the $200k's. $98,000 a year is less than the prevailing wage of a common construction laborer in Los Angeles (and this is from 2017 - don't know current rates)

"The Total Hourly Rate for a Laborer classification for Group 1 in Los Angeles County in February of 2017 is $52.08 per hour straight time, $68.25 per hour overtime, and $84.42 per hour Sunday, Holidays and double time"

Using the standard 2,080 hrs/yr x $52.08 = $108,743/yr. And this person doesn't need to pay an agent a percentage. While not a bad salary for many, it's chump change in the NFL.

That's what I found when Googling Prevailing Wages (i.e. government public works funded projects) in LA for a "Laborer". This adds in all the Fed/State/Local mandated set rates plus those extra health, vacation, training add-ons. The laborer doesn't take this home but neither does an NFL player take home those bizarre salaries.

I have seen from a lot of moving around cost of living has a lot 2 do with it.
Just a little example: In the 90s I was renting a place right outside of Chicago for 1600 a month. In 2000 I was renting a way bigger, nicer place, in a way better neighborhood in Arkansas for 400 a month. Big difference...even adding in the difference of the years.

A good Mason Tender (Laborer) in the St. Louis area can make $75,000 per year before overtime. Get on a jobsite that's working overtime and you can easily make over $100,000
