I wonder what corner they will trade for this season that hardly sees the field and is let go?

i was hoping Gilbert would of played instead of Gay, i know he has the size, speed and height to be better, something really strange here.

Joe Thomas, his teammate in Cleveland tweeted:

Id say he doesn't work very hard.

Dang, I had high hopes for Gilbert. I thought he'd be a solid addition to the corner rotation.

I don't care what anyone says I hate that we traded a draft pick knowing what this guys salary was going into this coming season. We are a team who is known to build thru the draft when you throw away picks like this it is frustrating. After watching us play vs the Cheats it was clear we need upgrades in the secondary, we need guys who are faster and can play zone and man. Nothing against Gay but his time is coming to an end and I was hoping this was why we got Gilbert. Now if Gilbert is a problem in the clubhouse I understand the move, don't like it but understand it.

It was a low risk high reward trade. We gave up a 6th round pick for a former # 8 overall. His cap hit is minimal. Assuming the player is healthy you make that trade every single time it comes up.

Yes get that he was a top 10 pick and yes I agree that it is a very good gamble but now aren't we on the hook for 2.170 mil? So we lose that cap space and now a 6th round pick(2018) I expect better from this team. We are not a big FA market team and we have fought to get in good shape with our cap. These are the kind of moves that hurt, jmo.

NE gave up a 4th rounder for Rowe that could become a 3rd rounder (not this again) if he plays a certain amount of snaps.

Obviously that price was too steep for the Steelers, because if IIRC, they brought him in for a visit during the draft and pretty sure they liked him. They may have felt snake bit from the Boykin thing. No one could figure out why the Eagles traded Rowe, probably made the Steelers hesitant to do that again.

I would have loved to have him here, was a big fan coming out of college.

According to beauchette we aren't on the hook for any remaining salary or bonus. No dead cap space

I saw that. Seems like previous discipline might be coming into play here. Otherwise, I have no idea why it would be voided.

There will be no salary cap ramifications for the Steelers because Gilbert's contract was not guaranteed

    As per the PPG

You have to have heart, desire to play football. If you don't your football career will be short.
Talent will only take you so far, I will take a player with a big motor everyday of the week and
twice on Tuesday over a talented lazy Prima dona any day. Gilbert just didn't have the heart, when teams
hell even the Browns give up on a player picked this high a warning flag should go up. But hey the Steelers rolled
the dice and lost. Thats the way it goes.

i kind of had a feeling this was just a maneuver to save or restructure his deal. story just out that hes still in their plans and may be resigned later this offseason, but not at the same guaranteed contract he had. he was still on his rookie contract and he had bonuses coming. story is from 247 sports

I have read that it was simply a move to save money. they are not opposed to bringing him back.

That draft pick would have been better used as one of my 9 QB projects.

Interesting, after Thomas called him out.

I have to say, Gilbert not responding to it speaks more highly of him than Thomas.

Love the tools he has. If they do bring him back, hope his head is on right.
