He basically looks like a raw prospect still. I'm sure QB coaches are talking in his ear about all of this, but yet he still doesn't seem to get it. He has all the talent but it's just not there between the ears.

I'm definitely drafting QB next year. I feel this is the ceiling for Fields. I hope he proves me wrong.

I'd put him as a running back with some trickery to utilize his mobility. Give him easy obvious throws because he can't seem to read a whole lot.

He's an obvious backup this year imo.

One of the knock on Fields coming out of college is that he was late on reads. Some QB's never overcome that.

Can he play a Randel-el role with the team?

I went to both of the home preseason games and one thing was very obvious. Fields can’t see or doesn’t look for wide open receivers 20 yards down the field. At one point on back to back plays a receiver was open and waving his arm and fields dumped the ball off for 3 yards and out.

Thats not bad coaching at this point. He just doesn’t have it.

He threw one in the endzone more than 20 yards down the field to WR TJ Luther, who mistimed his jump.

Let's not leave out since they had no help over the top....that he had half a field to throw that to him, and could have easily....led him to the left with a easy pitch, and catch. I want him to get better....just like I wanted Pickett to get better, but I will not bury my head in the sand, and make excuses for Him....just like I didn't Pickett.

Fields is a gimmick. He is here because Tomlin loves him. Plain and simple. Which is confusing because as we all know he despises anyone turning the ball over on Offense.

And he has to many shortcomings. Really didn't lose much but a sawbuck 6th.

    Fields = Pickett

Only difference is... Fields is a slightly better runner.

    Agreed, but...
Fields has a stronger arm also, but the problem is they both read , and react the same

If that was all it took you could get receivers from the Olympics.

Although I still think you could convert heavyweight wrestlers (Carl Hasselrig) to guards.

ARE was a QB in college, who immediately was used in returns and as a WR, developed some 'trick' plays that worked. Fields had always been a QB, starting at that. He is on his last year in his contract, kind of hard to work him into an ARE role this late. As we have talked about in other posts, some gadget plays and packages perhaps, but he is not going to line up at WR.

You are probably correct, but it could help us. I see both side of this. He doesn't want to he know as anything else than a Qb, but we could use the athleticism on other things.

    Again

The Olympics just showed us a lot of people with athleticism

There is a reason they are not in the NFL

    Fields is a quarterback

If he’s not playing quarterback he is just a guy taking up a roster spot

Although I’m sure PWP could design some pewee league plays for him
