KC offered $8 million in base salary along with $3 million more in incentives so it could have been $11 miliion if he reached the incentives levels.

They have added three void years so his cap charge will be $2.4m according to Twitter

I don't have a link, this came from a poster on another message board.

"JuJu's contract is actually a 5 year contract with 4 voidable years

7 Million in bonus and 1 million as base salary

So he really counts only 2.4 million this year."

To the Steelers yes. Saints have been doing it for a while, Pats did it with Brady

It’s basically fake years, solely for the purpose of spreading the bonus money out and keeping the cap charge for a particular player down in a particular year

The money accelerates / vests as soon as the players contract voids on an agreed date

Smart signing for us considering a guy like Nelson Agholor is getting $13M a year, with incentives. Agholor is nowhere close to JuJu. And for those worried about cap hit

The deal includes a $7 million signing bonus, $1 million base salary and four voidable years, lowering his 2021 cap number to $1.6 million.(Taylor Bisciotti, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.)

It was a smart signing for JuJu also. He knows that on his worst day, Ben still throws better than Jalen Hurts or Lamar Jackson. In KC, he will be the third option behind Hill and Kelce, If he wants a 1-year prove it deal, he made the right decision.

Who can void the contract? The team? The player? Both? I’m guessing both?

It’s written in to the contract when they sign that it voids on a certain date. Both the team and player understand that those additional years are fake, purely for cap purposes.

The player becomes a free agent the day the deal voids, and whatever prorated bonus money is left on the deal hits the cap sheet as dead money.

So, the contract voids in a year. Why the cutesy-pie spread the bonus over 2-3 yr none sense, when you know it all hits next yr? Lawyers and accountants fooling each other?

This 100%. Thats what it was primarily about. His agent and him tried to make it look like he got better money elsewhere and turned it down for the fans and the team. No he did it because he didnt get what he thought he was on the market and this was the best opportunity to increase his value next yr.

Pretty much, Juju’s hit will be $2.4m the year he plays, and then $5.6m the year he is gone. It’s not something you want to be doing too often but this year is exceptional.

They may come to terms on a long term deal next off season, in which case the deal will look a lot better.

If Juju tested free agency this year, he’ll sure as he’ll test it next yr.

I've said all along. JuJu is a class act. I'm so glad he is back. His personality and character ranks up there with Hines Ward. Hopefully, he gets a long term deal with us next year. I know many have said he wasn't the same after AB left, but he was hurt in 2019. Quite honestly, I think many would have been saying that about Claypool next season if JuJu left.

It's just to lower his cap hit this year. He was given $1m in base and $7m in signing bonus. The latter was stretched over the maximum five years, making it $1.4m/yr.

So this year he counts for only $2.4m.

Not really. The going rate on WR franchise tags this year is $15.9m. I'll take JuJu's $2.4m cap hit.

Boy, a lot of fuss for the teams #3 Wr. He really does have that branding thing down pat.

That #3 WR is Bens go to guy on 3rd downs and TD's. Without him we have no chance to get the offense going. With him we have a chance to sustain drives and score points. Not taking anything away from DJ and Claypool but we are a better team and will be able to at least compete in this division this year. JUJU out of the picture and this offense is toast. Let's just hope Ben can have a bounce back year.

At 8M a year we got a bargain and it actually proves JUJU likes Pittsburgh by turning down some other offers and if he performs well, who knows maybe he signs a long term team friendly deal. I see nothing but a win/win here.

Really thought there’d be more pissing and moaning about Juju coming back. Glad there isn’t. The guy wants to be here. We need him. Win - win.
