I think he's about as good as we were going to be able to get via free agency with our cap space. What are your thoughts?

I think he'll suffice...hell, maybe he'll flourish in our defense.

I hope this if for depth and not our answer cause I am worried about health of this guy. I also will be curious to how much he cost cause imo there are a lot better out there.

Steelers signed LB Jon Bostic, formerly of the Colts, to a two-year contract.
Bostic started 14 games for Indy last year while earning PFF's No. 12 run-stopping grade among inside linebackers. He'll be tasked with replacing Ryan Shazier, who is still recovering from a serious spinal injury.

He takes his physical tomorrow, good run stopper doesnt offer much in pass coverage, at least he is young age 26, in his 5 years his total earnings was 4.3 M colts 1 year contract was for 690 K so he wont get any big contract here maybe around 2.5 M for 2 years, maybe less...

Pretty much a given even without this signing.

I thank him for his effort, kid has heart and had the talent to be a very good player before getting a raw deal in life.

    I wish him the best.

This is for depth. Shazire, Moats, Spense all gone. We need more than 1 addition, we will still be drafting an ILB, trust me.

yup shazier's career is done. This aint a reverse jinx either. Anyone who says different is just grasping on thin air. ILB and safety in the draft and tomlin will have another "winning season" under his belt lol

We'll also sign a second level safety. Don't want to go into the draft with an absolute need. Want to be able to pick best player available, not just best player available at a position.

We can use some of that. I'm cautiously optimistic....If he doesn't work out I'll be cursing ....

So basically look for us to be shredded down the middle again.

To be fair, that shredding was mostly due to screwing up the coverage...

Graded out by PFF as average at the inside linebacker position!Had a career high 97 tackles before getting a season ending knee injury last year. Also has a season ending foot injury in 2016.If he passes the physical tomorrow he’s probably fair value for what we can afford with our very limited cap space!Agree with other posters on board that we will be drafting an inside linebacker early in the draft to fill that hole in our defense when Ryan went down.I said this before and with our cap space limited we just need improvement on the D in some capacity for a shot as our offense will be clicking on all cylinders!

Not necessarily...if we can stop the run first and foremost with our LBs we won't have the bring our safeties down in the box in run support. The more we can dictate down and distance ,in theory should help in defending the pass. He's not the answer to replace Shazier but I'm not sure if there is. We will still be drafting ILB early probably hoping to find the more athletic type and Safety is still on the menu. I would love to get a athletic ILB, a FS and a hybrid type also that I know will make Mac happy out of this draft. I still think we make a FS move in FA as well so maybe a ILB and a hybrid in the draft.

Wasn't injury history the excuse around here for not going after Mathieu? There is no reason to think Bostic can stay healthy and even if he does play, he's barely an upgrade over Spence.

So he's nothing more then a solid back up. The fact that he's already bounced around to several teams and had 1 nice year on one of the worst defenses in the NFL kinda supports that. Can he stop the run?

This draft is looking to be one of the more important drafts I can remember. We need to get 2 2018 starters out of this draft. That's not easy when those 2 players need to be starting ILB and Safety. I think we need to sign a starter at one of these positions. Morgan Burnett?

Houston pays 6.5 million for Mathieu with an incentive for more.Bostc is not as valuable as Mathieu(both fairly young 25 and 26) but Bostic was paid $690,000 last year.We have little cap space and as a value pickup it’s worth a shot!Spence is a good guy but his production on the field was little to nothing.Almost anyone is an upgrade!

This puts Timmons returning to rest in which i'm glad. Stop gap player that can contribute. An ILB will be drafted in the first 2 rounds. I wonder if this will spell LJ Forts departure. Dirty Red is still in the mix as he should be. A Dollar Store signing.
