    Interesting read for those interested.

I am not going to act as if I knew him as a HOF Coach who did battle with the Steelers nor as a legendary Color Analyst... I sadly did not. That said, my first season watching the Steelers was his final season as a Color Commentator. At the very least, I heard him even in that brief time. For that matter, thanks to the likes of him, Football became far more simple to understand and more exciting to invest in.

All I can say for him and his family is this; he may be gone but he did leave an impact few will ever achieve. For all of your hard work and dedication Mr. Madden... I thank you very much.

May your soul forever rest and find peace... wherever that may be. :herewego:

A I mentioned about a week ago in the thread about the Immaculate Reception Anniversary, Mr Madden bought me a drink as he invited me to sit with him as we shot the sh*t at Caesars in Vegas (new Raider's home) many moons ago. Of course I never mentioned that I was from Pittsburgh and a mega Steeler fan (4 generations and going strong). He was very gracious and down to Earth, something you don't expect from someone bigger than life (literally and figuratively). Rest in peace Sir. Well done!

For most of my life, John Madden WAS football. Yes, I remember his time as a head coach. But his voice and John Facenda's made the NFL what we know today. His commentary with all of his nonsequiturs, charming stutters, exclamations and excitement made even dull games seem lively.

Someone (can't remember who or where) made a good point yesterday. Madden was the head coach during the worst of the nastiest Raider-Steeler rivalries... and no Steeler fan ever has anything bad to say about him. He's that respected.

He was a great coach, probably a better announcer and overall ambassador for the NFL. I'll miss him and his quirky sense of humor. For example, how he loved when somehow a big lineman would end up with the football, or his amusement when big chunks of sod was lodged in a player's helmet. He was the blue-collar football personality.

There will never be another John Madden, ever.

This is as big a loss for the game of football as anything.

They'll never be anyone even close. I forgot how much fun he made watching games.
