Joey Porter says he’ll abide by league’s new Joey Porter rule

If the NFL is going to enact a Joey Porter rule, then Joey Porter is going to have to abide by it.

The Steelers assistant coach reacted with a shrug to the league’s edict that assistant coaches stay off the field during games, which he did in last year’s wild card game against the Bengals.

A rule’s a rule,” Porter said, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. “Doesn’t really bother me. “That’s a rule they have in place, that’s a rule we will play by.”

“That’s a rule they have in place, that’s a rule we will play by.”

The rule tweak wants to make sure only head coaches can go on the field of play, and then only to check on injured players.

That’s not what Porter was doing in the playoffs, when he went on the field to argue with Vontaze Burfict and Adam Jones. Jones ended up shoving him, earning a penalty which set up the Steelers’ game-winning field goal.

Porter was fined $10,000, a de facto admission from the league that Porter should have been penalized himself. But Porter wasn’t feeling nostalgic when asked about it this week.

“I didn’t learn nothing from that experience,” Porter said. “That was last year. We didn’t make it to the Super Bowl. That doesn’t really matter to me.”

It will from this point forward, and every coach in the league can thank Porter for bringing it to the league’s attention.

Not even going to give that article justice by clicking the link. The asshat who wrote it is an imbecile. Please, point out to me where Joey was arguing or instigating anything.

Stupid rule to enforce, assistant coaches have been doing this forever, it's just that in this game, thug Bengal players took it upon themselves to accost Porter.

Still funny that no one outside of Steeler fans ever acknowledge the 10 or so Bengal assistant coaches who were on the field earlier that game.

Wow just that snippet told the story of that writer. Amazing that people can't look at video and objectively see the obvious.

A blind man could have seen Peko separate Joey from the trainers and the ensuing meltdown. Unless Porter is somehow really good at arguing with his hands in his pockets and his mouth shut.

I personally think the video of the Hill fumble, Peezy on the field, and Pac Man crying should be shown AD NAUSEUM during the bungles game and especially during Renegade. I hope that every time AB lights Pac Man up for 6 they just show Pac Man crying on the jumbo tron. I want to pour as much salt in to that city's wounds as is absolutely possible.

Steelers have had rules made against them in the past, **** it.

It's gonna be funny to see how many assistant coaches out of force of habit get penalized for something they've always done in the first few weeks of next season.

Even though they just change the interpretation can we still call the spearing rule the Shazier rule now?

    Totally agree.

Also, the Mensa candidate that wrote the article errs on the reason for the 15 yard penalty on Adam Jones, which was called for making contact with an official. "Jerry" Porter had nothing to do with it.

Or better, show loads of famous scenes of historic Bengals failures - like Montana to Taylor in SB23 - but superimpose Joey on the field at the same time.

What about the Burfict INT? Weren't there 15 coaches on the field after he picked off Ben? Or was that a different point in the game? For me I really don't care about the new rule but to think Joey instigated the entire thing is ridiculous. Jones and Burfict are stupid football players who can't control their emotions when they must. It cost the Bungles a playoff win and a chance to make a run last season.

Going forward I hope we pound them into submission each and every time we play them. My distaste for the Bungles is getting closer and closer to that of the Ravens and the Pats. Personally I hope Burfict gets a taste of his own medicine this year, no matter who delivers it to him.

e.g. Mel Blount and the one chuck rule. Or the Hines Ward don't break the linebacker rule.

Yeah I actually thought about that too. Maybe even throw in Palmer's knee injury in 05 since they think it's so funny for Burfict to try and injure people. Hypocrites. Kemo obviously didn't do that on purpose but they still can't let it go. Burfict obviously did try and hurt Ben on purpose and they would never admit it.

The league is getting carried away with silly rules, IMHO, but we will just have to deal with it, and earn our 7th Lombardi this year...

Really I'd say there's more Steeler fans in TN than fans of any other team when you get down to it. I'm still used to abuse for a myriad of other reasons though. LOL!
