Oh, definitely not. Not even close, but it's a positive addition for sure.

My first reaction was kind of negative, but the more I think about it, the more I think I like this.

I know he was coaching at Colorado State last year. I remember seeing him on the sideline during their bowl game. I'm hoping this can be very positive. I think Kevin Greene did a pretty good job with the Green Bay LBs.

I think this is why people occasionally drop Tunch's name.

quote from someone on reddit, obviously no way to verify

sounds like a good place to start, the funny thing is ... most of his (important) old coaches are still around (Butler, LeBeau, only one missing is Cowher), even a few of his old team mates. Hope he can make the transition to coaching and be as great a coach as he was a leader on the field

Bet thats true, Porter was always a fiery passionate player, I'm sure he puts the same energy into coaching. I think it's a good move for us.

They want someone to put the nasty back into the LB corps.

I agree. Someone who had that much intensity as a player, will bring it as a coach. Now hopefully he brings Shaq Barrett along with him, somewhere late in the draft. Say goodbye Chris Carter...

The stories about his coaching experience certainly give me some confidence, though.

This seems like the perfect time to get that defensive identity back.

Believe what? That Tomlin puts the staff together? 100%. I know Rooneys had their fingerprints on the Haley hiring but thats the exception, not the norm. And depending on who you listen to, even the Haley hiring was Tomlin, the interview was the Rooneys doing and reports are that Haley nailed the interview and impressed MT.

At any rate, HC put their staffs together.

I heard Tomlin and Haley watched the senior Bowl practices together and Tomlin really liked everything Haley was saying. Also Porter was at last year's training camp so obviously they liked what they seen of him then.

The Peezy hiring tells me that the Steelers are planning on signing the younger Worilds, and give ole Woodley the scissors. They brought him in to help to mold the young starters into studs and play angry  me likey.

    I love it!

This defense is soft and Peezy will not stand for that mentality
I can already see the half time adjustments if the Steelers are down by 10 or more.

I for one am very excited about Peezy coming back. At the very least Peezy brings back his flare; something that has been missing since he retired. Second he was a great linebacker for us, I think that gives him instant credibility to our current linebackers. Maybe he can help Woodley drop some pounds and stay healthy while mentoring JJ.

    Welcome Back Joey!!!!!:applaud:

If I remember the thread right he was arrested in Colorado tis year due to a bench warrent that was never removed. CSU's head coach and Porter used it as a training tool to tell the players to take care of business.

Love the addition. To me this team has lost its swagger the last two years. Too many vets either gone or left, and the attitude left as well. Guy can make average guys better....period! Plus, he is the only coach we have who can straight up go head to head with most current players. JP could probably bust some heads on the sideline if needed.

Maybe Porter can get the defense to play with some of that old nasty attitude, that the Steelers were known for.
