Agreed. Bringing back Ramsey made little sense. He is at his best when he can be aggressive and attack, but I don't see that working well at free safety. It didn't last year.

So, he's Number 12? And one of the top 10 isn't primarily a cornerback. Yes, the Steelers need to keep Porter despite one foolish poster constantly twisting himself up in pretzels because he knows the Monopoly money comments contradict his previous claims that the team can spend whatever it wants on players and it won't hurt them.

ESPN is hilarious just with some of the "experts" they hire for commentary. Former execs that couldn't win more than 5 or 6 games most seasons they ran a team while picking in the top 10 almost every season are considered "experts" at ESPN.

They're wrong all the time about the performance of teams preseason. They know as much as we do in many cases, and they're often wrong more than the average informed fan.
They love telling everyone about all the mistakes that teams are making with every move. :roflmao:

If these guys were great at what they did, they wouldn't be sitting behind a desk on camera very long. Only a few ever even sniff an opportunity to re-enter the NFL in some capacity.

It's also very difficult to buy into an anonymous poll of people that have their own favoritisms and horrid opinions of things.

I'll make my own determinations, thank you.

That's what the folks using this against Porter often say, too, unless the so-called experts write something they like. Then it becomes gospel.

It sounds like they're going to play Ramsey at the Star position and won't be just playing safety, he will probably be more effective near the line of scrimmage.

I’m old enough to remember when ESPN was respected

That is helpful, but the guy still misses quite a few tackles, and he is no longer good enough to cover top receivers. We saw plenty of evidence of that last season.

    Me too.

Don't get me wrong, they have some people that I respect. It's just the overall degradation of the intent of what they do that bothers me.

They are too busy pushing agendas and have been leaning more and more with people that are more worried about hot takes than simply reporting facts and real, deep content on the sports themselves.

A lot of people played football, but I watch all those shows filled with guys that played in the NFL, and they hardly ever do real X's and O's, where they not only show you.....they explain to the average fan in a way they can help them to understand the game better.

I despise the clickbait world we live in, and things get watered down to the lowest common denominator far too often. I just wish they would do a better job of actually informing fans by explaining the game better.

I think that makes more sense for him (and was the plan last year before injuries IIRC).

Talking about Porter contract in the first half of Scout's Eye today (again...lots of adds but I use ublock origin and untrap for youtube in firefox so it isn't terrible).

I think he describes what's going on the CB market in a way that makes sense. Which is why I think Porter waits as long as possible to sign.

Starts at ~ 1:10 in my video but I don't know if the plugins I have cut stuff out.

The CB contract landscape is kind of weird with 2 big contracts at ~ $30mm and then a big drop to $25mm.

There are three CBs currently trying to get into that gap (Porter, Gonzalez from NE, and Turner with CIN - who he says is probably the worst of the three).

He talks about it being hard for teams and players to find the right space when there's a big gap like that. And that once one of the dominoes falls, then the others will too.

This part he doesn't say explicitly, but of these guys whoever signs first will end up making less money.

If he's right about Turning being the "worst" of the three, the other two players probably want him to sign first. Then they can say "we're better than him, pay us more".

Even then, it probably becomes a game of chicken between Gonzalez and Porter. Because the one that signs first probably makes less.

So Porter probably waits as long as possible.

And since Porter comes from money, I think he may be less desperate than other NFL players to sign quickly.
