What’s the ramp up from … sore ego over not having signed the contract yet?

Porter is saying he won't commit to playing week one without a new contract

I just saw that on the NFL Network. When asked if he is playing next week. He said " I don't know I have to see what my agents say about that."

The fact he is at practice is a good sign. I think they will get this deal done provided both signs can compromise a little.

Well that at least shows that it is the agent running the show

Farabaugh is reporting that Joey never asked to be highest paid. The ask for him is more garuntees.

Makes sense for him to say this. Because his leverage is that he might sit.

Very doubtful he pulls a Bell though IMO. It's not good for the career.

I think it's more that players have agents in part so they can blame them for the money stuff (which fans reasonably hate).

Then when the deal gets done, the player can come in and talk about how they wanted to be there the whole time. But agents do what agents do.

But what agents do is work for players.

I think this is basically what all NFL contracts are about.

The AAV is nice for bragging rights.

But it's the structure (mostly guarantees) that players really care about. Because anyone can add an extra year at the end with some crazy salary that you're never going to earn to make the AAV look good.

All that does for the player is increase the commission they have to pay to their agent (I think they generally get paid based on total contract value, not amount actually paid to players).

I'd imagine that he's also arguing to be paid more than Witherspoon.

Ramp up from just working out on the side to team drills.

Bell wasn't under contract when he sat out, if JPJ sits out he will be subject to heavy fines.

I think Porters words are just gamesmanship, trying to get a deal done before the season starts.

He really doesn’t have any leverage and only hurts himself sitting out.

    Great point.

It's a very expensive decision for him to sit out.
