Either way Haden needs to chill, TJ is the number one player to get a deal now.

Haden said in two recent interviews that he’d like an extension but understands that nothing will happen until TJ’s contract is done. He wants to retire a Steeler and feels that he can play on after this year. I don’t see anything wrong with talking about it, he is a smart guy and understands the team point of view by the sounds of it.

There is nothing wrong with saying you like playing for the Steelers. He does not need to chill.

of course he wants his piece of the pie. TJ this year and minka and a qb next year. won't be tons left for joe or anyone else by then. they still need to sign a lot of guys too. we also will have a good bit of dead money next year too.

The saving grace will be the increase in the cap number next season.

I was overjoyed when they signed Joe Haden. Finally a true #1 due to the subpar drafts. Bet most of you liked the signing as well. I also liked when they signed Nelson. Finally two book end CB's.

With Sutton's rising play Nelsons days were numbered with the cap hit. Homegrown finally above the curve to step in.

Joe Haden knows that TJ is the priority, but hell, why not seek an extension? And like he stated, retire a Steeler. As he should.

Haden will be 33 years old next year, that would be a lot of money tied up in a guy whose play could fall off at any time.

Anybodys play could fall off at anytime. We've all seen it. Plus he wouldn't be the 1st Cb 2 play well past 33, and on top of that Great Players are just playing longer thanks 2 the rules.

Joe is no dummy , he really like`s playing for Steelers . And he has played great . He isn`t looking for a raise . But still too much for Steelers unless he would go for 2/17mil , or something like that . He just threw his hat in the mix, not rocking boats or making demands.

Obviously TJ is the higher priority but I read somewhere that a team is allowed to negotiate with multiple players at the same time. It doesn't have to be either/or between Haden and TJ.

I'm sure that Joe has seen his birth certificate and realizes that he's not 22 anymore. He knows he's at the end of his career and is likely to accept year to year deals. I see no downside of this for either side.

It doesn’t have to be either / or but Haden actually mentioned TJ’s deal himself in his interviews, stating that he knew nothing would happen until that was sorted.

It started falling off last year. Steelers should be in no hurry to do this.

His special teams play on kickoffs was poor.

We must be careful here. His level of play will likely degrade and possibly be unacceptable in as little as 3 years.

If it`s true he wants to stay, how about a discount and restructure.

Makes me wonder how QB's can go into their late 30's early 40's while with every other position you start getting long in the tooth in your early 30's. Of course QB's lose their mobility and arm strength but damn if they don't keep on ticking and get big money.

There have been some great old ones at QB. Brady is trying his beat to top George Blanda. Brees, Favre, Dawson, good old V. Testaverde, Moon, Morrall are some that played into their 40's. Rodgers, Manning, Ben all older guys.

Granted Blanda was a kicker too but I'm hard pressed to think of many older (over 35) players at any other position other then QB.

It's because mostly Qbs are about knowing where 2 go with the ball . Not Arm Strength, and 40 speed. So that gets better the longer they play . Well for some.
People always talk about someone not having this ability or that.
If People really pay attention most....not all , but most Qbs run because they are not seeing the field.
Think about this little example. Why do You think no matter who they are, Qbs take off Scrambling so much as rookies???
Some stay that way ,because they never learn 2 see, react, and decide quick enough.

Tough contract to do anything with as over half of this year's 15 million is guaranteed Bonus money that can't be moved.

Unless they make it a 4 or 5 year deal they are not really go to save any CAP money this year and could actually increase his Cap expense with a short extension.

I think the old QBs learn to throw the ball away and just take the BOOOOOOOs from the fans.

The younger QBs are going to tuck the ball and try to pick up the first down.

Well for one a CB has to be able to run, and as some CBs get older they can't keep up with those young fast receivers, a QB can be stationary in the pocket and still be effective.
