Haden is past his prime, but better than every CB we have except maybe for Burns.

I'm not doom and gloom... I'm just posting what is real and what has happened in the past. The Steelers are a total disaster in Oakland... and nothing they displayed last year on offense in the playoffs would have given me any reason to believe they could win in Oakland (with Carr at QB for Raiders) or Foxboro with Brady at QB for Pats. Hell... throw Philly in there, too. Steelers can't play good football in those cities and I have facts to back me up on this.

The offense will be better this season, they at least have a #2 WR this season in Bryant and more depth at TE.

I thought we had TE depth last year with Ladarius Green. Oh wait.

I hope McDonald can play at least 8 games this year.

I think an overlooked aspect is adding another leader to the secondary. Sure Gay does a bit of that but he's not always on the field. Say what you want about Mitchell, I'll feel good with Haden being a strong voice in our secondary with all our youth.

7 years and he is past his prime? In his last 4 years he has 10 picks and would have had more but he only played 5 games in 2015 injured, he had 3 picks last year with 48 tackles 11 pdefs, the steelers know what he can do they have played against him twice a year for several years, if he stays on the field this year more than 13 games he will probably pro bowl, he is just hitting his prime and he will probably pick bradys pocket when we play the cheats Dec 17.......

This seems like a great thread to jump back onto the forum for another season.

Nothing to hate about this signing. Didn't give up a pick or player. Made the secondary better. Friendly contract. He's at best a great CB who is in his prime but was severely under productive after being injured as well as having his supporting cast in the Browns DB corps all taken away from him.

He's at worse, exactly what the Browns are saying: their 4th best CB on their team. A player who was changed after his injuries and just can't play his man anymore. He is still likely the 2nd best CB on our team in that scenario, thats how much work we need.

But he is here on effectively a one year deal. He is one of the few positive players to come out of a Browns locker room. He is at best, an absolute boom for us. He is at worse, just competent . So nothing to hate as far I can see.

Well I have read most of the comments here and a lot of people make some really good/great points for both sides. I for one am glad with the signing but why does this have to be the end of Cockrell or sensebaugh(sp)? I mean just because Cockrell hasn't played the slot does that mean he can't? I would love to keep Cockrell, Sense, Artie and Haden. I would get rid of Gay, not trying to be mean but he is done. He has been good for us since we brought him back but he is to slow now. These guys are professionals I am sure one of these 4 guys could learn how to play the slot and with this being a passing league now keep them all.

The thing here is we need to look at keeping Golden and Gay off the field and with not bringing back Timmons I think can only help our pass coverage. Add to that getting Heyward back and the addition of Watt maybe some more pressure will be put on as well. Either way not trying to get off the topic but with all these and Haden imo we are better.

Kudos to the Steelers for going outside the box and making this move to sign Haden. They know the window with Ben here is closing and this is a move that will get them that much closer to winning that 7th Lombardi Trophy.

He is worth the chance, his leadership alone elevates our back field. The 7 million is for the 1st year, so the Steelers as usual still got a deal, as he brings experience and a pro bowl resume to our secondary. If it doesn't work, i.e. injuries, they can phase him out after the 1st year and not hurt financially that bad. The gamble , money wise, is year one. This is an excellent gamble if ever there was one.

And they committed highway robbery with the 49ers trade getting a starter & a 5th round pick for a 4rth rounder. That's a potential gap from pick 136 or so to 139 or so (incredible).

Maybe they should be writing the Art of the Deal! :applaud:

I didn't realize the 5th was involved, but I always enjoy involving a 5th. So to speak. With that in mind, this was a heck of a deal.
