Maybe if you're watching tape from 2013 and 2014 (when he was a top 20ish corner)... his 2015 was a dismal joke (He surrendered a perfect 158.3 QB rating against)... so, literally, he was as bad as a CB can possibly be... but he only played like 4 games that year... In 2016, well he sucked last year too.... he gave up a league high 6 TDs, and surrendered a 1.48 yards per coverage snap (16th worst in the league).... for comparisons sake, Cockrell gave up 0.87 yards per coverage snap,

Haden: 1.48 Yards per coverage snap
    vs
Cockrell: 0.87 yards per coverage snap

one guy is the guy everyone hates... the other is the guy everyone wants to sign....

Every post in this thread should begin with:
    Last Year:
Haden: 1.48 Yards per coverage snap
    vs
Cockrell: 0.87 yards per coverage snap

    Here's some more Haden fun....

    PFF Coverage Ratings for Haden
    2010: 87.5
    2011: 81.2
    2012: 83.5
    2013: 83.7
    2014: 79.0
    - NEW CONTRACT
    2015: 31.9 (ONLY 4 GAMES)
    2016: 45.5

I know everyone hears the name Joe Haden, and thinks "#1 corner!!!!"..... But Names can't cover....

    22. Since Week 6, Ross Cockrell has surrendered 0.25 yards per coverage snap, the best mark among cornerbacks.

The Steelers would like Ross Cockrell to be their top cornerback, and in recent weeks, he hasn’t disappointed. Cockrell has allowed five of nine passes thrown his way to be caught for just 24 yards over his last three games. This week, his biggest challenge will be stopping Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant. Since Bryant has returned from injury, he’s only caught five of 15 passes thrown his way, but he’s tallied 132 yards on those five catches. The Steelers will struggle to stop the Cowboys’ run game, so they’ll really need Cockrell and the rest of the secondary to play well and at least limit yards through the air.

According to PFF, Cockrell ranked No. 15 in the NFL out of 117 eligible cornerbacks in yards allowed per coverage snap. He allowed .87 yards per coverage snap. Simply put teams didn’t target Cockrell a great deal on his drops and when they did he did a great job in limiting yards.

I am 50/50. Wish I knew what a medical physical would say on him. If he is healthy he would be the best corner on our team for sure.

I'm saying that swapping Cockrell for Haden has just as much, if not more, chance of making us worse at corner as it does of improving the starting position.

Cockrell has his warts. But Haden's are uglier.

How often does a CB fall completely to the bottom of the barrel for 2 years, to suddenly return to good starter quality?

No one watches Browns games by choice... everyone should go pick a game from last year, and watch it. Haden was so bad that PWP would have to invent all new ways to inaccurately describe coverage to explain it.

I would love for this move to work. I would love to pick up a formerly very good player, and see him return to "very good-ness". And YES, there is the possibility that that COULD happen... maybe. possibly..... am I willing to take that gamble? Man... I don't know, that's a lot of risk to take (dropping your starter a week before the season starts.... to replace with someone new to your scheme, coming off two god awful seasons... I guess sensabaugh gives you some cover in making this move? He could start for a few weeks, while you see if Haden can take the job....)

Don't forget to mention he had two groin injuries last year , surgery in the offseason to fix it and appears to be back to wear he was preinjury........

yea, just "chalk it up"... no big deal. We are only talking about replacing our starting CB with a free agent, a week before the season starts....

    What's his excuse this preseason?

Haden’s performance this preseason has continued the downward trend. Through three preseason games, Haden has allowed 1.61 yards per coverage snap, and a passer rating of 104.6, both the highest marks among Browns cornerbacks with at least 30 coverage snaps.

I think there is a conspiracy by Sports Agents to leak info to guys like Adam Schefter and the like, saying the Steelers are interested in their clients in order to get more hype for them ... even though it is totally false.

I highly doubt they are interested in Haden. I think they like the guys they have, unless the "right guy" comes on the market in the next week.

Out of curiosity, what has cockrell's numbers been pre season wise? I too think it's an iffy situation... Hard to base much off of vanilla pre season Defense...

Funny! Seriously though, the tape that SDOT posted a link to shows some highs and some lows from a 2016 game vs. the Ravens. The lows were not pretty, but the highs were the types of plays on the ball that we're not seeing much of from our corners. I hope we can get a deal done for reasonable dollars. However I probably jettison Gay or Sensabaugh instead of Cockrell.

They got 13 million in cap space. What else are they going to spend it on? This is an area of need. Don't let him leave Pittsburgh.
