They're a Ukrainian metal band and if you haven't heard of them before, you probably will by the end of the year as they're going on a NA tour with Slipknot and Cypress Hill. They're one of the few bands fronted by a woman that distorted vocals that I can stomach.

Great voice. Never been a huge fan of their music overall though.

Not a fan of the musical style overall
    Agree.

She should do a doom side project. :hmm:

Good point. They're Ukrainian according to Wikipedia. Personally all the European metal I listen to comes out of Sweden or close to it like Firebreather, Kverletak, Horndal, Vokonis, Amon Amarth, Opeth etc.

I think it could also be generational because I was a kid when grunge was already popular. Doom metal has a similar vibe. Jinjer is more melodic. That fits in with 80s metal. A lot of metal heads really appreciate the classic bands a lot of which are more melodic.

Obviously you are younger then me. I've never heard of any of those bands. I think the term "metal bands" has different meaning now then in the 70's. My generation metal bands were Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, etc. etc.

Due to recent music choices put up on this board I've taken a listen. I'd say a lot harder then what I was into. Then again, I could just be old.

Depends on the band. The stuff I like definitely has a huge Sabbath influence. I listen to Sabbath, Motorhead, Slayer and Pantera of the classic metal bands. I get enough Metallica on the radio. :roflmao:

My favorite metal band is High on Fire and I guarantee you will hear Lemmy in it.

Same thing for doom metal bands. Hugely influenced by Sabbath.

Some metal is intentionally a 70s vibe but I'd say all of it is rooted in what Sabbath started:

I only listen 2 The Sword because of the Sabbath influence. First time I heard them was on the 2nd version of Headbangers ball. I was at our Bass players house ,He had it on, We were doing something, and all of a sudden Winter Wolves comes on by Sword.....We both looked at each other, and said ....Sabbath???
I went out the next day ,and bought their Album at the time : Age of Winters

I would guess We are not far apart in age. What You called Metal.....was Metal at the time. It just has evolved. Without the bands You mentioned....most of these newer bands wouldn't exist.

Exactly. And those bands are the first ones to pay homage to Sabbath and others and always give respect to the bands that influenced them.

Steel Machine, check this one out. Love this song.

There are a lot of new bands that are similar to what you like. Don't know about High on Fire but I think you'll hear Motorhead in there. I don't listen to bands that sound too 70ish so I don't have a lot of suggestions but they're definitely around if you want to dig a bit.

Edit: One suggestion I can think of is Green Lung. 2 albums that are themed around witchcraft. I like them and I don't usually listen to stuff that sounds this similar to Sabbath so you might really like it.

Jinjer cites bands like Opeth and AIC as their influences.

Disclosure is bout as grungy as they get.

That makes sense with the focus on vocals. Layne really had a set of pipes.

AIC is my favorite band ever. I just can't listen to them all the time. Their music is definitely great for that pick-me-up when I'm having a depression episode. It's just a sad caveat with Layne. His music was so personal that without his addiction I highly doubt AIC is as good as they were, but because of his addiction he's no longer with us. I'm sure we can say the same about many bands.

That's the Mastodon album I like best. Love that one. They're all good but that stands out.

    You like Green Lung though?

Green Lung is OK. They definitely have a Sabbath vibe going. That's the 1st time I heard of them....so I can't really say if I really like them yet, or not.
